    Swine Flu, for fuck's sake!

The news from Thailand about the swine flu are alarming!

Meanwhile, the Thai Hotels Association (THA) has urged entertainment venues, pubs and restaurants in the tourist resort of Pattaya to close their outlets temporarily in order to help prevent the spread of A(H1N1) influenza.

THA president Chatchawal Supachayanont said bars and restaurants are usually overcrowded so they better suspend business to avoid widespread infections.
    WTF !?

However, while Thai authorities remain concerned about outbreaks, officials in Australia now say they have stopped counting the number of cases because there are so many.
Hey, Australians, continue counting and stay home, ok?

Australian tourism authorities have been blaming local state governments for over-reacting to the outbreak, causing needless bad publicity.

Australian travellers are now likely to be ''exporting'' the swine flu to countries they visit. The largest numbers of tourists on Phuket are visitors from Australia.
    What I said !!!

I hope the bars will not close!

Has there to be a problem in Thailand every time I go?? :-(

If they can't or won't shut down the bars when there is a legal mandate to do so around election days and a cop on every street corner they will struggle to find a closed shop/bar/restaurant because of the risk that some foreigners may get pig flu!

Don't worry, Anorak... Your holiday is quite safe!

There are probably thousands of unregistered cases already in Thailand (evidently also in most other places)
The symptoms are extremely mild and are no real cause for concern.
Fatality rate is as low as a common flu....

I heard that sufferers grow trotters and start eating without a knife and fork. I'm doubtful though... bloody rumours!

21 of the staff at StarDice Disco in Naklua tested positive for Swine Flu 2009.

Damn - If this trend continues, the only teeraks to remain by the time I get there would be the HIV positives!

Seriously... how much will test positive to swine flu in Pattaya if the virus' favorite vector now is a standard Aussie?

Be careful about flying thru certain countries in regards to the swine flu. If even one person has a fever on the plane they could and do keep the whole lot of you locked up for a week in a hotel at your expense of course

I wouldn't be so sure! Of course the media are blowing it up! But the big problem we will face very soon is pig ignorant folks who have not got a clue! We are due a global pandemic and the figures we get to see in our preperations in the health service are alarming to say the least! The first death in the uk has just happened, and the women was 38! Although she had underlying health issues, i don't think most people realise that this pandemic will affect mostly working age adults. Globally most deaths will happen in developing nations, but the need for good handwashing and covering your mouth when sneezing will be very important and is a good preventive.
