Oasis also offers an indoor watering system that allows you to set the amount of watering to the type of plant...here's the link for that...http://www.mrdrip.com/indoorwateringsystem.htm
Yeah, the is a hygroscopic gel that holds 50 times its weight in water. It comes as powder or crystal form.
Mix it in with the potting mix (Or in a layer) but remember it holds a lot of water, so leave space.
All the old hippies used to use it on the Qld Coast so they could only water the "crop" once a month. Or so I am told.

I have found a solution of my own.
We've got a small inflatable pool for children.
I could put 10 cm of water in there, and then put the plants in.
They would suck the water in through the holes in the bottom of the pots.
Not sure though if this wouldn't be too much water though, or if I'd have to obstruct those holes somehow.
This will drown & KILL all your plants within a week
I feared that.
But if I put 1 cm of water only, it will evaporate in less than 4 days (it's dry over here).
So I'll have to obstruct the holes on the pot's bottoms somehow.
The mat is a good idea.
The bathroom isn't a solution, because it has no window.
