Vaccination against HPV

The latest issue of the HIV/AIDS journal, aidsmap, ran an article on the human papilloma virus (HPV). It reported that a recent research study of over 300 gay men found that 79% were anally infected with HPV. (200 of the 300 were HIV negative).

HPV is reportedly linked to the onset of anal cancer in a similar manner that it is a precursor for cervical cancer.

There is a suggestion that gay men should be vaccinated with the HPV vaccine Gardasil, akin to women being vaccinated against cervical cancer.

Not that anyone on this site is gay, but has anyone been vaccinated or considered the vaccination?

It would seem to me that if there was an effective vaccine, then it should be used.

No but it does seem like a good idea. Then again I've (Glenn) got this whole pan-immunity project going on.. I'll line up for any vaccines/immunisations they have on offer

im a bit of a regular up the clinic, and this disease has never been mentioned.
i am vacinated against hepatitis B. it invloved four injections over one year.
they consider people like us as "high risk".
