  • London eyes Super Bowl...

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl....adlines

Besides my buddy Stogs, and of course KL whose Steelers went all the way last year {grrrrr} my ''sources'' from the UK tell me that footie ain't even catching on in ol' blighty!

Too much scoring? Field too short? No penalty kicks?
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

    I don't see why it wouldn't happen.

I'd like to see the UK field an expansion team in my lifetime.

Won't happen here because of the sporting culture. Don't get me wrong I've nothing against NFL and it's great to watch but the attitude here is very much you follow your football team (soccer) and not any other sport, excpet cricket in the summer of corse.

Heck it's rare that you'll even find someone who watches Rugby and Football (soccer). In the States you have your football team your basketball team, your Baseball team and even different teams in different leagues like your colledge and Pro team. It's just not like that in the UK.

We had a game here last year that was very popular as a one off, but I question wether they could draw the big crowds week in week out. Plus all the showman ship of the NFL would be mis interpreted as a guy just being a tosser.

          this COULD  happen

and may, actually.......you're still a relatively young lad

           but the  SB??

do they have an indoor dome there that seats 70K?

otherwise......  "Well Jim, here we are for super bowl 55 and the weather is 45 degrees and rainy, with a brisk wind blowing in from the southwest...... who ever figured THIS would be a  good place to hold this years game?"

Something else I was thinking about. Football fields have a crown in the middle and players are used to that and it can slightly effect sideline passes if after playing on a regular football field all year, you play the SB on a soccer pitch that is flat as a table top. I guess both sides would be equally effected by the field though.

Apparently the NFL managers have been here asking about Wembley - Stadium is perfect.

They also know that to increase the popularity of the soprt to a global audience then they need to take it on the road.

Dont know how the Met Police and local authority would deal with a match that lasts 4 hours and kicks off at midnight!!

I'm aware......I've been there many times and going back in 2 weeks,  Europe rocks.

But, errr......the question remains;  do they have an indoor stadium in London, where this is proposed?

Because if  the answer is NO,  no one is going to wanna play that game in early February when it's usually cold and rainy weather there.  Here in the country that invented McDonalds we have what's called Nice Weather and domes to play these games....as far as I know  England has neither.

They are hosting the Olympics soon, they may be planning one for that? I really dunno......

Actually I think football (soccer ugh) fields do indeed have crowns for drainage-not that it rains in Engerland!! I think a Super Bowl in London within 10 years is a realistic possiblity. An expansion team would be less so because mainly the travel issue would be tough to overcome.
                    Be careful out there!

Large helmets, shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads, jock straps etc.. and they're scared of a bit of cold too ?

The rugby and football seasons run through the winter, rarely with problems.

                        Jaidee,

To answer your question, the Millenium Stadium Cardiff
holds 80,00 people and has a retractable roof, and to the best of my knowledge the new Wembley (90,00) also has a retractable roof.

Of course, I might be wrong
Bottom line is, like football (soccer) never really took off in the U.S, American Football will never really take off here for the same reasons.

I don't know about that allstar. Already there are plans in the pipeline to have a major premiership game played in Asia, so who says the f.a cup wont follow.

my friend Justin from London, now living in NYC {Only Englanders can afford that city} tells me the same thing.

But Stogie and KL love it, both having spent a substantial amount of time in the states and having it grow on them. me thinks they are in the minority and most Brits will always be bored with it

for me there is no better sport, fact is it's the only one I watch
