Crooked Labour government... spineless opposition... House of Lords in bed with corporations... and who honestly votes for the Greens or the Independents? I didn't know we even had an independent party till recently!

A Times/Populus poll this week put Ukip on 6% and the BNP on 2%. BNP polling figures may be an underestimate, however, since voters can be reluctant to declare their support for that party.

A majority of people back the British National Party's policies, according to a poll released today, (25th May 2009.)

But the YouGov survey found that many people disown the policies once they are associated with the BNP!

The poll comes ahead of local elections next week when there are fears the BNP could make an electoral breakthrough.

It found that 59 per cent of people supported a halt to all further immigration to the UK - one of the BNP's main pledges - when they were not told of the far-right group's association with the policy.

Among those who were told that it was a BNP commitment, support for the policy was only 48 per cent.

And 52 per cent of those who took part in the survey agreed that all immigrants should be denied the right to bring further members of their family into this country. But when told it was a BNP policy, support fell by 9 per cent.

Overall there was 55 per cent support for BNP policies until people were informed of the party's stance, when backing dropped to 49 per cent.

More than a third of people, 37 per cent, said they would seriously consider voting for the BNP's policies in an election. But identifying the BNP with the policies caused support to fall by 17 per cent.

Large majorities dismissed two of the BNP's most hardline ideas. Some 68 per cent refused to support the stance that non-white British citizens are inherently less British than white people. And 52 per cent were opposed to encouraging immigrants and their families to leave Britain.

Peter Kellner, chairman of YouGov, commented: "The results demonstrate that the BNP is tapping into some widely-held views, but that the party suffers from a negative image. "If the BNP were able to erase this view, it could make significant gains in the upcoming local elections. This may explain what is happening in certain localities where the BNP now polls strongly."

The poll was carried out for Sky News, between April 21 and 24. Around 900 people were asked if they supported policies without any mention of the BNP, while 941 were told that they were BNP commitments.

More people considering BNP protest vote, report finds...

A warning that thousands of frustrated British voters are no longer ashamed to back the British National Party was today backed up by a national report.

Margaret Hodge, the Employment Minister, said yesterday that as many as eight out of ten working class white families in her East London constituency of Barking were tempted to vote for the BNP in council elections on May 4. The BNP is fielding a record 357 candidates, including for the first time one in every ward in Birmingham.

Mrs Hodge's comments were reinforced today by a report for the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust social policy research group, which suggested that up to 25 per cent of London voters and one in six across Britain had considered voting BNP.

The Trust said that feelings of "powerlessness and frustration", particularly in white, working class council wards where there was a fast pace of change, had led to anger with the main political parties...

BNP set to win seats as support surges...

The British National Party is on course to make significant gains in the local elections in England in two weeks time, according to a YouGov poll for The Daily Telegraph today.

A 'perfect storm' for the BNP to make gains in the European elections?

It shows that seven per cent of voters are ready to back the far-Right party and that 24 per cent have considered voting BNP in the past or are thinking of doing so now.

In the eyes of almost three-quarters of potential BNP supporters, Britain "almost seems like a foreign country".

The poll underlines the recent warning from Margaret Hodge, the employment minister, that white working-class families felt so neglected by the Government and angered by immigration that they were deserting Labour and flocking to the BNP.

The surge in support for the BNP - which displaced the National Front as Britain's main far-Right party in 1982 - could damage the Conservatives in the local elections, which will be David Cameron's first electoral test since becoming Tory leader.

The poll suggests that the BNP draws its support more from the Conservatives than from Labour - and is gaining ground at the expense of the Liberal Democrats and UK Independence Party.

A majority still believes that, despite having a new leader, the Conservatives have not changed all that much and even more reckon it is no longer very clear what the party stands for.

The strong showing for the BNP, which has already achieved more success than any other far-Right party, will alarm all the mainstream parties. At the general election last year, the BNP won 4.3 per cent of the vote across the 116 seats it contested. It polled 16.9 per cent in the Barking constituency...

Received my postal vote form today - I am voting UKIP in the Euro elections. Its the best option to get a message through to those money grabbing thiefs at Westminster that we need to withdraw from the European Union.

with all the expenses row, i think the protest vote will be bigger than anyone predicts.
they were close to being elected on my estate last time, so they had a recount 3 times, to make sure they didnt win.
but then again, the candidate was a single mum called sharon.
