Jimslim, I saw Bob Dylan in 2001 and it was the worst concert I've ever attended.

A helicopter flew in and Dylan stepped out with his guitar. He played on stage for exactly two hours, from 7 to 9 pm, then got back in the helicopter and took off again while the crowd was still half-applauding/half-confused.

Oh and when I say he "played" for two hours, I mean he mumbled his way through a few barely recognizable classics and a bunch of crap off a yet-unreleased album no one had heard yet.

      It was terrible.

(Stogie @ Mar. 15 2009,18:02) Is there a live act out there that you would travel the world or over pay to go and see?
            None.
I would however buy a few Quality DVD's of those groups

I was planning on seeing them on the "In Thru The Out Door" tour, but it never made it to USA.

              Great Shows I have Seen
The Clash, U2, Motorhead, PJ Harvey, Nine Inch Nails (with Marilyn Manson as warm up)
Adam and the Ants (ok, I was young...but it was a great show)

Dont know about you guy's but i always prefered small sweaty clubs than arean's. but i've been to both and amongst the highlights would be, early days, Ben E King, usually at the "Wheel" and always a class act, and, from a long list of 60's Soul stars, i would go for an unforgetable night at the Mojo in Sheffield when the full 18 piece Ike & Tina Turner review crammed onto a small stage and gave a blistering performance. Nowadays ? yea i'd pay over the top to see Springsteen, a good value straight down the line r&r show, although last time i saw him i really enjoyed the solo acoustic set, Prince, Lou Reed and Dylan as long as he promised to play the whole of "Blood On The Tracks"

lou reed on the roof of the PBR singing 'walk on the wild side' with the slightly adjusted chorus:
                  "and the ladyboys go..."
                  and they do.
                  they do.

                  priceless.

I go to lots of shows (20 to 30 a year) and I try to never over pay but have paid $175 to see Rod Stewart from the 5th row at MGM Grand in Vegas. That's the most I ever paid, and it was face value.

I never miss Rod or the Stones or Jack White (White Stripes or Raconteurs.) I guess I could add Diana Ross to the list, as I saw her for the first time last summer and she was so good, I went back the next night. Best show I saw in 2008 was the Cure - absolutely awesome show, solid 3 hours and no breaks.

Travel the world just for..... no.

Overpay..... well my lifetime recorded & live fave is Van Morrison & my favorite album, ever, & has been for 40+ years, is his "Astral Weeks". He recently rerecorded it live & played 2-3 cities since & I jumped at the chance to catch this once in a lifetime opportunity, however the tickets here began over $200US for the cheap seats in a large arena venue.

No way. So I guess no....
Clapton & Winwood wanted $180+ for obstructed view at the same venue.

I have been enjoying seeing 60's groups, what's left of them actually, that I may have missed the first time around on the idea that this is as authentic as I will ever get to see so beloved tunes performed live, & even tho the bands aren't intact some of them are great fun to catch. The best so far: The Searchers, The Yardbirds, Love (the best without question), The Zombies.

Waiting for Led Zep & The Kinks.

Upon reflection, I actually missed a show I would've traveled exclusively just to see, because I was asleep at the switch at the time & not spending any time searching music sites on the web..... probably because I was preoccupied with ladyboy sites to an unhealthy degree....

Summer of 2007 in San Francisco there was the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love & a free concert in the park featuring Moby Grape, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Its a Beautiful Day, The Charlatans, Country Joe & the Fish, Dan Hicks & his Hot Licks, Taj Mahal, Canned Heat. THAT I should have jetted to see & finally dropped this brown acid.
I haven't heard anything about the 40th of Woodstock which would be this August, but I don't hold out hope for much on that.

Saw Roger Waters when he played in Dubai (was living there then) absolutely the best gig I have ever seen, without doubt. Have to admit I shed a tear when he played Wish you where here..... Just hoping Neil Young and Rammstein would come to Singapore, but thats probably hopin for to much.......
A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of ladyboy porn.

Johnny Cash.   I've seen damn near everyone realvant in the Music Industry.  But Johnny Cash drunk on stage is quite sobering to say the least.
" I once killed a man, just to watch him die. "  (quote) Johnny Cash.

I once sat with Frank Sinatra and had dinner with him in Las Vegas when I was about 15yrs old. By that time I was into Kiss & Led Zepplin. My point being, I was actually impressed with Franks Talents. I did not expect to enjoy an Old Fogie show.
It was fun acutally. We met because my moms boss was the realestate agent for him at the time.

The actual line from Folsom Prison Blues is, "...I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die..."

But the problem I always had with the line is, if he shot a man in Reno, Nevada, why the hell is he in a prison in Folsom, California? Creative license I suppose...

Probably because Folsom has conjiugal visits.
C'mon, he is Johnny Cash after all.
