  • Ryanair to charge for use of toilets

from today's Irish times - amazing stuff

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspap....?via=mr

RYANAIR SAYS it is serious about plans to charge passengers for using the toilet on its aircraft.

€œIt€™s going to happen,€ chief executive Michael O€™Leary told journalists yesterday about the proposal, which garnered huge publicity worldwide when he threw it out as a vague possibility last week.

Mr O€™Leary said aircraft manufacturers had told him there were technical and safety issues about using a coin-operated system on toilet doors, so the proposal now was that passengers would swipe a credit card to gain entry.

He said that if the airline was prevented from charging passengers on the way in to the toilet, it would impose the charge when they were on the way out. It would also impose soiling charges where appropriate.

    No honey, no money!!

That guy is taking on that stupid government head on and I hope he wins.

And why should toilets be free in an airplane? They aren't free anyplace else.

Forget the credit card swipes, just hire the ladies that collect 5 baht at the Pattaya bogs near the beer bars.

Have to disagree with you here - certainly a brilliant CEO like Micheal O'Leary could have increased revenues by building in a factor for toilet use in the ticket price. If he was just looking for publicity maybe that was his strategy.

Budget airlines give you "bare bones" travel, but making you pay to use the toilet is going a bit too far. If you buy a ticket for a cruise ship, ferry or any other airline - you can use the toilet for free (well it is built into the ticket cost). If you go to a mall generally the toilets are free in LOS - at least at Big C, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, MBK, Central World, Pantip Plaza - but some places require you to buy toilet paper.

As for the safety issue - I can see it now, pay toilet lock on Ryan Air flight is faulty trapping passenger in toilet during turbulence. Passenger bounces off ceiling and floor, breaks neck and sues for 20 million pounds.

Don't see how the government comes into this, but if you want them I suppose Ryan Air could put seat belts in the toilet too!

RX, the government are going to start charging a 10 euro tax to all tourists who step of a plane in Ireland as from the 1st April, and Ryanair are trying to stop the tax going ahead.

Already Ryanair have gotten rid of 200 workers in the 2 main airports in Ireland, Dublin and Shannon, and now they are trying to get back more money by starting this toilet charge.

It will eventually make sure tourists do not travel to Ireland at all.

Viscosity will be the basis of the pricing system.

What if two people go into the toilet for a quick trip to the "mile high club"? Will there be a double charge?

                          Ryanair is a rip-off anyway.

If flying from Frankfurt to London, the cost of a regular line compared to Ryanair is about the same, except with Ryanair you need 4,5  hours instead of 2 with a regular airline - not even talking about comfort.

Not only everything costs you money (like visiting toilets or a glass of water aboard), but they also hide costs and include unwanted extras to your bill.
I think they had their personnel learn the marketing techniques in a 12 month sales course in Patpong.

I agree , I'd sooner make my own bird-man wings than fly with them .

These so called low cost airlines are a disgrace , ever tried to book a flight online with any of them ?

They should be done under the trades discription act over their bogus prices that they advertise .

You start out thinking you are getting a bargain , then you get charged for luggage , seats , tax , the air you breathe onboard , when you finally hit the checkout button

They should be made to advertise a set price and stick to it .

                              My rant of the day
Free your mind and your ass will follow .
