Nasty porn scam

Particularly nasty scam about in the UK and reported on BBC Radio 5 the other morning.

An unsuspecting person gets a letter from a German based lawyer claiming that the recipent has been illegally file sharing porn movies, which are listed and described and demanding £500 in damages to avoid legal action. The letters are addressed to the person who pays the telephone bill and contain a threat to contact other members of the household.

Victims have included little old ladies, single women and assorted guys in various relationships. Assuming you have not been illegally file sharing you should not enter into dialogue with these people as you are playing their game by doing so. If by remote chance they ever did take you to court they would need to produce your hard drive as evidence - which lets face it is not going to happen with modern external hard drives and similar devices that are so easily disposable.

One of the ways that they gather information is by calling up and pretending to be conducting a survey. Never give out your personal details to an unknown third party or you may end up ensnared by these scumbags!

people with intelligence can get scammed when their greed or libido is stronger than their intelligence.

I have no respect for people that get scammed because they are greedy or because of their sex-drive. It is darwin's law. The weak are too protected nowadays. They are so much protected, that the clever have trouble gaining an edge over them in society. It's kinda unfair, in a way...

Imagine that .. little old ladies are downloading pirated porn from bit torrent sites
