By the way; I did not say that all Africans were savages - I said Africa is full of savages... the same way the UK is full of criminal immigrants.

It will take enormous outside influence to change the way the place does business,

and that just won't be coming any time soon as the rest of the world has to tackle their own problems.

Yeah, I'm playing devil's advocate here, and I'm also trying to put this current (minor) incident of piracy by the Somalis in some kind of a historical context. When you consider what the Europeans and Americans have done to the entire continent, a few clever Somali fishermen taking an oil-tanker seems like nothing by comparison.
While it is true that the current generation of Europeans and Americans had nothing to do with slavery and genocide, they have most certainly benifited by entrenched systems of exploitation that are a direct result of earlier, colonial systems of exploitation.
I'm sure these dudes are not anyone I'd wanna have a beer with, but I got a huge kick from hearing about what they were able to pull off.
I'm going to ignore the blatantly racist comments about "chains and long boat journeys" as an attempt to piss of the liberal.

Yesterday I read that the U.K.'s response was that if the Royal Navy captured any of these pirates that they should not bring them back to the U.K.
Why, you might ask?
Because if they do bring them back
a) they might apply for asylum in the U.K.
b) might take legal action against the U.K. for "illegal detention".
How lamentable is the State of law in the U.K. that it can come to this?
Oh and lets not forget the human rights do gooders who would descend on the ship claiming that it was the Royal Navy who were the real bad guys .
Somalia is a fucked up,lawless,criminal breeding ground that should be obliterated.Any pirates caught should be immediately executed without any waste of money in a Court of Law.There bodies should be infected with the Ebola virus and dropped from a plane into the centre of their Miserable cities to let the virus spread.
Not only are they a bunch of murdering cutthroats but we have them coming to Australia and they are rapidly becoming part of a new crime wave of African immigrants, forming gangs and fighting police.

i think some people need reminding here that there are peoples lives involved here,there are hostages with guns pointed at their heads who have families and children, possibly some related to members of this board how does that make you feel? not to mention the possible enviromental catastrophe which would ensue should this tanker be blown up or damaged,these shipping routes are also part of the vital supply networks which keep economies going which in turn enable certain countries to contribute vital aide both financial and physical to countries situated around that part of the globe,one major shipping carrier has allready re routed its fleets to avoid this mess,at great financial cost which in turn effects its end user which in turn effects the end users ability to aide, so twats who think this a minor incident aboard "some boat" are ignorant.

Aided & abetted by the criminal activities of the reporting agencies who helped them dupe central banks, sovereign funds, etc into buying all their bad paper, they have bought the world's economy to its knees with an unprecedented destruction of wealth.

When you consider what real criminals (bankers, heads of state, the military) have done and will continue to do, the actions of a few pissed off fishermen (pirates) seems paltry by comparison.
