Why are you multiplying by 7 again? there is only 1 big cat per suitcase, not 7 and then add 7 kittens.

8 Cats each with 4 legs in each bag
8 x 4 = 32

7 Lb's each with 7 bags

7 x 7 = 49 Bags

So 49 bags each containing 32 legs
so 49 x 32 = 1568


7 LB's assume each has 2 legs

7 x 2 = 14

Total 1568 + 14 = 1582

I cannot see any other solution based on the facts presented

The alternate solution is that the cases(and contents of 8 cats per case) are NOT in the minivan so only 7 LB's in the minivan. Answer 7 x 2 = 14

Therefore, only the 7 LB's can fit inside the miniwan = 14 legs (excluding the driver, which is not mentioned)

7 LB's with 7 suitcases each = 49

Logic tell me that with the 7 LB passengers onboard the miniwan is more or less full, and it would be impossable to get an extra 49 suitcases inside the miniwan on top of this.

So the answer is;

1 There are 14 legs in the miniwan, with the 49 suitcases tied to the roof rack.

2 There were no legs at all, as the driver refused to take them all, and they had to get the train.
