Obama wins as called by all networks with at least so far...
    297 to 142
but that popular vote is much closer at:
    51% to 49%

    Oh well
You sound disappointed. That's surprising to me. You never struck me as a Rep.

      • Even though Obama has promised "change" we're not going to see much. It doesn't matter in the end who got elected. I don't understand all the McCain hate around here either. The man is not George Bush. McCain's a hero who has devoted his entire life to his country, even more so than Obama.

Obama's ridiculous plans are not going to get passed. People will still be paying their bills, mortgage, etc. No one is going to get a free college education. How can people be so stupid to swallow this tripe? Who is going to pay for all this crap. In addition, Obama's proposed tax cuts make NO sense whatsoever. He's going to give 3,000 dollar tax breaks to companies who make new hires when it costs over 60,000 dollars to make a new hire in American business. That's still a loss of 57,000 dollars.

Obama's relationship with William Ayres and Jeremiah Wright are much more dangerous and radical than anything McCain is done. Why is McCain painted so negatively when Obama has ties with a known terrorist bomber and a radical, racist pastor? This doesn't make any sense to me either.

The only good thing Obama MIGHT do in the next four years is endind the ridiculous war in Iraq. This is the main reason I would voted for him, if I had felt like voting. I didn't, because I live in Illinois so my vote is completely worthless.

So please, anyone who thinks things are going to change or be radically different, take the rose-tinted glasses off. The next four years are going to be exactly the same as the previous eight years.

Oh, and gay marriage got voted down in California. How can the Californians vote FOR Obama, but AGAINST gay marriage? That makes NO sense whatsoever. Good job, California; show us how open and liberal you all are by voting down gay marriage.

Yes, I'm pissed about the election. I've been pissed about it for two years. And NO, I'm not GOP so I don't even want to hear that. I'm a fierce independent.

Yeah, Mc Cain is a true american warhero vawing the star sprangled banner while telling war memories, how could you not elect him?

You don´t understand why the rest of the world dislikes a republican who tries to fill the boots after the worst president in US history, Dubya?

Maybe you should check out some international news and views, not only domestic.

          • As a neutral it is clear that Obama gives hope to a country that has lost most of its friends in the world during the Bush era. I hope that he immediately starts mending fences with those countries that look to the USA for leadership both politically and economically.

If he can deliver just 10% of what he promises then the world will be a better place.

For those members who think he is a closet socialist I can only assume that they havnt a clue what socialism really is like. Britain in the mid 1970s was a socialist country and we ended up going to the IMF with our begging bowl.

If John McCain wants a job I am sure he could do a better job sorting out the problems that we have on this side of the pond than the useless politicians that we have in the UK.

Uhh... mind pointing out where I said that? I said I didn't understand all the McCain hate... prior to the '08 election campaign, the media LOVED him for being a maverick.

Actually I think the reading and comprehension course would be your obligation...........McSame saw that the only way he was going to secure the GOP nomination and have a snowballs chance in hell at getting elected was to pander to the GOP radical right and give up his ideals and independence. Hence the Palin pick.

As far as your hero worship of McSame.....I suggest you again do some reading of McSame's accomplishments or lack therof before and during Vietnam. Not only did he sign confessions of war crimes he destroyed at least 2 aircraft and ducked and covered when an explosion on deck caused a fire on his aircraft carrier. He had no respect from his fellow pilots both before and after Vietnam. The only redeeming value he had was not accepting an early release without the release of his fellow prisoners............

Face it the better man won and if the rest of the right and so called independents refuse to accept and help work for the ideals that Obama is going to attempt work for and to implement and instead try to stonewall him then 4 or 8 years from now we may still be struggling. The difference is this time the congress is controlled by the left so there won't be any backstreet deals

Any change will be beneficial to this country

                  • blonde_havoc, look at the past threads about this. After reading them, I expect you will find that your time would be better spent reading the great FRs and reports related to LBs. As a political forum, this place is really not very accepting of any alternate views (from liberals) on American politics. But then again, understand it has never been billed as such, so it's not a disappointment, there are lots of other places ont he internet for that. This forum is FABULOUS for discussing everything related to ladyboys, and there is NONE BETTER! And even some great stuff about Thais, Thai culture, Thai people, etc. American politics? Not so much.

I don't think I've run into even one non-American that likes Bush. McCain, as a Republican, is more or less guilty by association.

After 9/11 there was an outpouring of sympathy towards America. That's all been squandered and most people on our planet don't like the actions of the Bush administration.

Many Americans might say that international relations is not a popularity contest and the USA needs to act tough. Better IMO is for America to build consensus among our allies and to attempt to understand the motivations of our enemies.

I'm glad Obama won and think he'll make a great president. But I think just about any Dem could have won this year.

                      • Sorry eyemahk.........you can criticize and whine as much you want but face it you have yet to make a point from your arguments........The best ou have done is scream at the top of your lungs that " I don't like either party ....I'm a libertarian!!!" So What!!!! You have shown that although you "claim" to be a "libertarian" you have a major right wing lean that is "not" the Libertarian philosophies. And you resent the fact that I point out the libertarian party's affiliations with the Klan.....so much so that David Duke claimed the Libertarian party in his failed attempt at the US senate..........

Feel free to debate eyemahk but bring something to the table

                        • The FISH BOX! » Obama Wins! Good news or not?
                          (Thegame925 - Posted on: Nov. 06 2008)

Obama showed he was a great communicator.
Obama had the discipline to remain €œon message€ throughout the campaign.
Obama remained outwardly calm under pressure, whatever was thrown at him.
Obama picked people to manage his campaign superbly.
Obama energized the youth of America in a way not seen before, even in the sixties.
Obama overcame the obstacles of race and colour.
Obama€™s election night speech showed humility, warned of the dangers ahead, and tried to lower expectations.

Provided that Obama is spared from assassination, I believe, despite his inexperience, but based on the management of his campaign, that he will pick people of talent across the spectrum to manage the country and, using his communication skills, over the next 8 years, he will restore America€™s pride in itself and restore the position of America with America€™s natural allies (and its enemies).

Obama will turn out to be only slightly left of centre; he will not back-track on free-trade or turn America isolationist and he will, through his communication skills, lead America forward.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

This is the hour, Obama is The Man.

Although had Hillary won the democratic nomination she would have won as easily as Obama or more so.
