Oven ready McCain is a pompous windbag trading on his detention as a POW in Vietnam.

First he says Obama hasn't been to the troops enough and when Obama does go and comes out looking like the reincarnation of fucking Marvin Gaye the oven ready fried chip tells the world that his trip to Afshitistan was politically motivated...

Well; guess what you fucking coffin dodger... He is a politician so every thing he fucking does is politically motivated!

Roll on 2009 when we can get some decent politicians in office that STILL aren't going to affect our lives one i-fucking-ota!

(stogie bear @ Jul. 28 2008,01:45) Roll on 2009 when we can get some decent politicians in office that STILL aren't going to affect our lives one i-fucking-ota!
except that if the Black guy wins he will have a like-minded congress to work with

Dems helping Dems ...... man, I never thought I'd say that back in 1985 but these past 8 years have ruined this once-great country; war, recession, housing and bank crises, etc......AND we look like shit in the eyes of the world, back in the 80's and 90's we were the envy of that same world....  it's time to give some new blood a chance, IE  democrats.

If they fuck it up even more [seems unlikely, no??] I will thrown in the towel and give up and hell, by then I will be living in some inexpensive 3rd world craphole for the rest of my life so it won't hurt so much; watching it unfold slowly right now is like being tortured!

Oh ya, another great legacy from the Cheney white house; waterboarding, IE torturing our prisoners;  I thought we were above that, no?

"Oh ya, another great legacy from the Cheney white house; waterboarding, IE torturing our prisoners;  I thought we were above that, no?"
"We've" never been above that. It's just that in the past that sort of thing was mostly contracted out to people trained, armed and funded by the U.S. , though not always. Sometimes they did it themselves.
The School of the Americas (since re-named), in Fort Benning Georgia is where most of the people responsible for Latin American death squads and their atrocities were trained.
Torture and murder have always been staples of the U.S. government. I could site you examples, but I figure this is common knowledge for anyone who cares to look.
People, and especially the media seem to have very short memories.

          Ya,  the Phoenix program {Run by the CIA of course} was awesome for Vietnamese people;

take 5 prisoners up into a helicopter to about 3000 feet....  tell prisoner number 1 to start talking; he doesn't and he gets pushed out.  Tell number 2 to start talking; he doesn't and gets tossed out as well.

             3-5 usually talked pretty quickly.

we can rip on other countries for torture, but when we do it, well that's OK  right?

sure, then just tell the attorney general whom YOU appointed not to look into it!!

WHY DO THEY STILL PUT THE WORD VICE BEFORE HIS NAME?

You guys don't know your facts very well do you....here is the link from the Bureau of Labor Statistics...sorry, unemployment never went above 9%...and was 3.7% in 1968, not 15-20%....

Oh yes..."trickle down" was NOT a legacy of Bush 1...but Ronald Reagan...here is an article from the 2004 edition of The Wall Street Journal...

Can't you guys stick to the facts instead of just trying to blow smoke up my ass?

(alan1chef @ Jul. 26 2008,18:27) I told you on another thread that it will be the VP choices that decide this election. I will remind all of you about that after the fact in mid-November. Why? The electorate is polarized...all of you have given evidence of that. Whoever these candidates choose as VP will swing enough votes to decide the election.
In general, I don't think people care too much about who's number 2 on the ticket. So one tactic is to pick a veep candidate that appeals to Florida's unique demographics perhaps a Cuban or Jewish candidate.

I think Hillary would be the strongest choice for the Dems. Lots of Limbaugh types hate her but they weren't voting for Obama anyway. If they don't put Hillary on the ticket perhaps the repubs should nominate a woman.

(geezer @ Jul. 26 2008,07:41) A charismatic leader is not always a good one.
Agreed. But all else being equal a little charisma doesn't hurt.

Reagan's charisma was a plus. His abilty to follow a script plus his charisma earned him the moniker of "the great communicator.

Kerry, a nuanced speaker, and great in a debate where you win by points was not able to destroy the hapless W. Same same for Gore. When sticking strictly to the script Bush was better than those two.

Charismatic leaders can be dangerous whipping up countries in aggressive frenzies. But obsessive loners like Tricky Dick can also be dangerous.

There's obviously much more to governing than sound bites and press conferences. But I prefer American Presidents to have it all including charisma.

Simply put, politicians the world over are going to have less influence on their own countries affairs due to globalization. Theres only one cake and Russia , China and India are going to take a bigger part of it.....at the Wests expense..

Does anybody seriously think that another 3 Billion people can all aspire to have a Western lifetstyle without some serious problems...Our problems havent even started yet IMO

(Tomcat @ Jul. 29 2008,01:17) Our problems havent even started yet IMO
Not just your opinion Tomcat, I'm bloody certain of it.

The Federal Reserve won't be able to bail out all the banks that face collapse & the new President will need to call out the National Guard in order to control the mobs when they start rioting over food.

That seems very far-fetched, but it isn't my prediction, it is one of many scenarios facing the US in the future, as forecast by such authorities as Professor Antel Fekete, the chair of economics at Harvard.

No-one should be surprised that years of bad policy-making should end in tears.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

Professor Antal Fekete is not the chair of economics at Harvard...Richard Freeman is the current chair of economics there...here is a copy of Professor Fekete's background courtesy of his website.

Antal E. Fekete, Professor, Memorial University of Newfoundland, was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1932. He graduated from the Loránt Eötvös University of Budapest in mathematics in 1955. He left Hungary in the wake of the 1956 anti-Communist uprising that was brutally put down by the occupying Soviet troops.

He immigrated to Canada in the following year and was appointed Assistant Professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1958. In 1993, after 35 years€™ of service he retired with the rank of Full Professor.

During this period he also had tours of duty as visiting professor at Columbia University in the City of New York (1961), Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland (1964), Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia (1970), Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey (1974). Since 2005 he has been Professor at Large of Intermountain Institute for Science and Applied Mathematics (IISAM), Missoula, Montana.

Professor Fekete has made predictions of economic collapse related to gold prices...here is a link to an article that discusses his predictions...http://news.goldseek.com/GoldSeek/1190041282.php

I find his predictions of the collapse of paper money to be overly dependent on circumstantial evidence. However, he has attracted some attention from mainstream economists.

It will definitely be a close race. The key for Obama is to get out the vote...a significant majority of non-voters lean toward Democratic candidates. You know that the Republicans will have free rides to the polls from every old-folks home and senior center in the country.

I couldn't agree more Tomcat...McCain is past his prime and the Republicans could have come up with someone with a fresher perspective...too bad Romney is a Mormon...I think his religious ties did him in.
