TWO KRATOEYS PULL UNDER-THE-BED SCAM ON NAIVE IRANIANS
Two kratoeys or ladyboys lured two Iranian men into having sex in room in Moo Baan Rungland, Pattaya, on July 19, 2008. While one of the kratoeys was having sex, the other hid under the bed and stole money from the victims. A Good Samaritan later managed to catch the kratoey who was under the bed, but the suspect claimed he was completely innocent.
On July 19, 2008, at 2.30 am, Pol.Maj. Witthaya Yuenyong, Pattaya, was notified that two foreigners had been robbed by kratoeys and a suspect had been detained. The incident happened behind Moo Baan Rungland, near "Bu-gna Jim Jum" Restaurant. A police team was sent to investigate.
At the scene of the incident, police met the two Iranian victims, Messrs. Morteza Pirouz (37) and Ahmad Hadli (28), along with Mr. Pornchai Promsijan (32), a kratoey from Udonthani, who had been detained by a Good Samaritan helpmate of the Iranians. Mr. Pornchai claimed that he hadn't stolen anyone's property, but when police searched his pockets, they found Bt6,200, US$20 and a mobile phone, which they kept as evidence.
Mr. Pirouz told police that he and his friend had gone for a spot of entertainment in South Pattaya and were approached by a kratoey, disguised as a woman, and his friend. The kratoey had offered them a body massage and sex, to which they agreed. The kratoey then took them to a room that he had rented in Soi Moo Baan Rungland, South Pattaya. When they reached the room, the two Iranians took off their clothes and put them on the floor. The kratoey duly gave them a massage and had sex with both Iranians. They then paid the kratoey for his services, after which the kratoey left the room.
Soon after the kratoey had gone, one of the Iranians discovered that around US$180 of his money, which had been in his trouser pocket, was missing, with only paper replacing it. Mr. Pirouz and his friend immediately put on their clothes and ran after the suspect, but they were unlucky because the kratoey who had serviced them had ridden away on a motorbike. Meanwhile, the other kratoey, Mr. Pornchai, who apparently had been hiding under the bed, came out of the room shortly after the Iranians they had gone out. Conveniently, a Good Samaritan who had seen the Iranians give chase to the other kratoey realised what was going on and detained Mr. Pornchai. Mr. Pornchai denied knowing the other kratoey who had escaped and he had nothing to do with the robbery. He was subsequently searched and a large quantity of money was found on his person. This, he maintained, was money he had intended to send to his parents, upcountry.
However, the two victims identified Mr. Pornchai as one of the two kratoeys who had enticed them to the room. It later came out that their ploy was a regular trick of kratoeys, who would lure foreign victims to a room and one would secrete himself under the bed, while the other had sex. During the sexual activities, the victim would generally be unaware that there was a thief hidden under the bed, who would then steal property from their clothes while they were having sex and substitute some paper in the wallet or trousers so it still looked full and subsequently make their escape before the victims cottoned on.
Despite Mr. Pornchai's ardent denial of any involvement in the scam, he was charged with theft. Police then handed over Mr. Pornchai for police investigation and will acquire an arrest warrant for the kratoey who had escaped.
