I've never been a great fan of food, I eat because I have to, not for pleasure.

So, what makes it for me is the company I am with, if I'm with good friends then the food is a second.

Reasonable food, cheap bottles of wine and great friends = a perfect night.

    I've made kathylc

Here's a pic of my favorite restaurant.

It's in the background. The joint in the foreground is perhaps a better place for drinks cause it's less crowded. Ploy Talay is the very next place starting where the woman is standing.

Ploy Talay has a sister operation on the north shore where there's no real beach to speak of and instead the restaurant and lodging is a poor man's Tahiti overwatwer bungalow experience.

In this pic you sit on a floor cushion but your legs dangle downward towards the water. You can throw food down and watch the fish scramble towards it.

As a food pro I should be able to give some good tips. But funnily enough the places I really rate are generally small and unknown, but with great food and service. Places that I invariably forget the name of, but remember what spices they used on the lamb or some particular special wine they had.

One place I can recommend is Mozaic just outside Ubud in Bali. It is rightly rated as one of the best restaurants in the area (Bali) and offers gourmet taster menus on a par with many of the better 'modern' restaurants in Europe.

Definitely worth a look up if you happen to be in Bali.

Apart from that I personally rate the khao pet lady at the end of soi7(Sukhumvit). It's basic but cheap, and usually very quick.

The place has an understated elegance and it won't cost you a fortune. A dinner for two will be arounf Euros 100/120 included a good bottle of wine, and I do not mean South Africa wine worthy 1 USd and sold at 30 USD as it happens now in most restaurants in Far East.
Food it's great. The chef's grand-grand-father used to be Giuseppe Verdi's chef and some of the favoured Verdi's recipes are still in the menu. All meats, veggies, cheese and cured meats come from the estate.
And if you want to have an hands-on approach on salamis, other than the LBs' one ( ), you can attend the classes in cured meats preparation as well
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!

Best restaurant for me is La Lucciola, on the beach (literally) at north Legian , Bali. The swordfish steaks were cooked to perfection, the bintangs were ice cold, the golden rays of sunshine sinking into the horizon . Only one thing could spoil this special moment and that was my loudmouth aussie missus who downed a few wines and made a right cunt of herself . I soon saw the light and left her    and now gorge myself on haddock, chips and mushy peas, the real food of kings. Bollocks to all this posh shite.  Cheers now.
Hear all, see all, say nowt, well not much anyrode.
