SB,
Can you go back and grab me one also, what a deal
Of course the right thing to do is mention it right then and there; fix it all before you sign away
Knowing Thailand the poor girl that sold it to you will have to come up with the 16,191 missing from the till when they close for the day.... someone's going to have to pay when the boss finds out she fucked up!
If they have your credit card data and it was a mistake, they can easily get into contact with you - the cc company will forward the message to you; more likely some dude in the backoffice will disclose your adress to the shop straight away.
just this week I was given more than 40 dollars change for a purchase where I handed the girl only 10 dollars. I notified her immediately and she was very grateful. Then, as I was leaving the store, three other employees applauded me - made my day!
big depatment store, walk away and say nothing. small owner/operator store, point it out.as previous posts have said, department stores generally write it of.
good friend of mine was a manager at a very well known electrical superstore, and he told me the mark-ups on most things. scandalous amounts,so dont feel to bad about it.
All stores should have fail safes in place to catch this stuff.
Someone job my be on the Line here.
Heres what you do;
Go back and pretend to buy another one, see what it rings up as $. See if they caught it, Before the sale is finalized, say, Oh, sorry, I forgot my wallet.
then look for the salesperson who served you.
If all is good, I walk. If the problem persists, someone is going to get fired.
Undercharging doesn't seem to happen much here in Pattaya. Though yesterday, in a small Thai place they forgot to charge for a Coke cause it wasn't with the empty plates so I pointed to the can and paid the extra 17 baht.
But overcharging/incorrect bins are common. Maybe the boss is making the money or maybe it's a way for employees to take from customers without the boss knowing or perhaps with the boss knowing but not minding.
When it's pointed out it usually gets corrected but I don't like having to point it out.
I give high marks to 7/11. They always ring up the right amount.

Exactly!
Not to count all the times they rip you off when summarizing all what you bought, especially in food supermarket
I very seldom check the bill for those many items but I often see people doing it and all the time they get refunds because they have been overcharged.
Perhaps was your payback time Stogie!
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!
Oh..Ok..very honest man! I guess I would have done it myself the same for such a large amount
One (off topic) anecdote about wrongly priced goods I can recall in Lybia. I used to work there during the "defiant Gheddafi" era, at the beginning of the 80's.
All goods were imported and often wrongly priced. There was a a lot of stainless steel made Rolexes being sold for something like USD 60 instead of USD 600, but it was already over when I arrived there
However, I could get Lyle & Scott cashmere pullovers for only 20 USD instead of 100 USD
On the other hand..you could end up paying a pencils box 10 USD instead of 1 USD
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!
Today in the west most shops have EPOS (electronic point of sale) and bar code readers.
This should stop all mistakes as the till assistant just has to scan the item and take the money.
However I remember in the early days of this buying some copper plumbing fitings in a shop.
One item I needed was shown on the stand at the correct price. Took it to the till and it went from something like £2.50 to £12.50!
I tried to get the assistant to understand it was obviously wrongly priced.....
The response I got was something like it must be the right price as that's what the till says.
Needless to say I purchased it in another shop.

Stogie me man,
Bar code obviously entered incorrectly, they will pick that up and correct it, no problem, however they cannot charge you for the same thing twice on the CC, samesameup2u, if you still feel bad, take 10 LB's and 3 crates of beer home and have a guilt trip!
My idea of foreplay is getting my wallet out......
when I was a working slave back in about 1995 or so, doing 12-14 hour days for the man and making barely enough to keep up with my bills, I had a vacation coming up. I opened my check and the computer at the home office had made a mistake and gave me an extra zero; rather than paying me for 40 hours, they paid me for 400!
Let 'em know about that little fuck - up?
yeah, right
I cashed it, deserved every cent by the way, kept it, and never heard a thing about it
