There you have it , voters in the south of Ireland have voted to reject the Lisbon treaty and stick two fingers up to the European Union and its gravy train .

Against the odds of the three main political parties and their vested interests the ordinary people said NO .

Great to see the politicians squirming

I applaud the fact that the Irish politicians did the decent thing and asked their people to vote.    
I'm disgusted at the attitude of all the other politicians in the EU.    


But don't worry  -  in the best traditions of the Peoples European Socialist Republic they will just bring it in to force anyway.
That's what the other countries are doing.


Why let democacy get in the way of a big fat paycheck,  grossly inflated expenses and an indexed linked pension that us poor saps will have to finance.


Remember the EU loses through incompetance more money than the GNP of the majority of the world's countries?

Glad I wasn't asked to vote, it makes fuck all sense to me and I wouldn't know which way to vote to be honest...

The E.U. disaster train is running off the tracks.
An E.U. President and more power to the unrepresentative swill in the E.U. Parliament, mainly compiled of old socialist has-beens. No democratic process, just more useless decrees and red tape.
The dysfunctional Countries from the old Eastern bloc have successfully managed to send their mafia, along with the Russians, into every corner of Europe.Flooding across the non-existent borders.Not to mention our Islamic friends joining the line.
It's a sad indictment, especially on the U.K.,although what would you expect from the Blair/Brown labour party, that they did not follow Irelands example.However I expect that they already knew the result.

Our Irish friends can correct me, but I thought they were legally bound to have a referendum because any change to the Irish constitution demands that.

I am sure they would have preferred not to have a referendum just like the others

The Irish voters are to be congratulated for their rejection of the Treaty of Lisbon. I don't want to be a sceptic but the UK Government is already saying that the implementation of the Treaty will still go ahead. The UK is becoming the most undemocratic country in Europe.

As the economic problems in Europe get worse expect the Spanish and Italians to start talking about leaving the Eurozone.

Euro scam is an artificial scamming device - bit like a Nigerian email request.  But at least we can ignore those - these Euro gravy train payments are compulsory

No of course we are not - Labour were democratically elected so they are full able to make a decision without a referendum.

Because when ever they get mentioned by the press they would be on something the government know they would lose the vote on.

So why are we not having a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty? Or EU Constitution as it was previously named.
Because polls show that the UK vote would be something like 60-65% AGAINST!

So no referendum and the government are going to bring it in because they know better than the people they are allegedly representing.
They can then all go off to their nice EU jobs after we boot them out in the next election and will get 100% pay increase working there.

Stwert, you are correct in saying that ireland must have a vote on what ever changes are made.

In Ireland, there is a old saying when it comes to voting and it is "If in doubt, vote No" and as a lot of irish people didn't even understand the paper and could never read it without a law degree, there was just one option to look at.... Vote no

Correct , and Im sure the Irish government would have preferred not to have a referendum particularly now they've ended up with egg on their faces .

Precisely the same reason Tony Blair dodged the issue for 10 years .

If a vote was held in the UK tomorrow Id be pretty confident it would be a no vote also .

When the Lisbon Treaty was in it's previous form it was grandly called the European Constitution.

One small problem came up when Queen Elizabeth took legal advice about it in it's original form.
If she had given it Royal Assent (signed it) she would have removed herself as sovereign the UK.

Luckily for us in the UK that's effectively what stopped it that time - 2003.
