Has anyone ever been arrested for possession of poppers/amyl nitrate/isobutyl nitrate in Thailand? I'd be interested to read any links to news stories people have on this.

Basically there is a link to a list published by the Thai Embassy of controlled substances in Thailand and poppers aren't on it. Not suggesting for a moment anyone should start importing the stuff. Also this thread was from 2005.
Just found it interesting as i used it when i was younger and took some to LOS on a couple of occasions. To be honest i was shocked to see some of the replies above saying it was illegal as i would never have dreamed of taking it there if had thought it was prohibited. In the UK you can by it in shops.

Given all the other things that we ban in its a complete mystery to me how poppers remain freely available.

Note that the document only is dealing with controlled mind altering drugs - so amyl nitrate would not appear on such a list.

Also this is a Royal Decree from 1979, so I would not be surprised if there have been some changes which may not have been updated on the website.

I've spent an hour or so trawling the net today, and i can't find anything that suggests Poppers are illegal in Thailand. There are dozens of references to the issues of combining them with Viagra and the like. But nowhere can i see any mention of its possession or import being restricted.
Like i mentioned before, this interests me as i used it in the past and in trips in 2005 & 2006 took poppers to Thailand through the old airport.
If they are illegal, can anyone give me a clue as to what class/category they are in Thailand and what the penalties are for possession of it.
I shudder when i think i might have been searched at Don Muang and had the flipping stuff in my luggage!

i like to have a sniff of poppers now and again, and now as a shop near has it i was thinking of taking a bottle but after seeing this has sort of changed my mind, been as its sold in newsagents now here in uk thought wouldnt be a prob in thailand, but wont be taking any now as on the slight chance its found and they not like, what a watse of a trip !
