(Road Runner @ May 28 2008,05:49) We think of Thailand as having corrupt politicians. But corruption of the polictical process can take many different forms.
    Correct...But it's institutionalized here ...

    It's termed campaign contributions...

MY question to all of you who seem to care so much about politics here and who seem to dislike Yanks so much, what difference does it make to you who we elect? Whether it's a young black man, a white women or a tottering old white man, why do you give a shit?

Will you make more or less money? Will you work longer or shorter hours at your job? Will your wives or girl friends love you more or love you less? Not one of these candidates to be will change my life much...

It just seems to me that there are many more important things to be passionate about than who is elected president of the United States.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter much anyway...

          Hello Kahuna,

In the grand scheme of things at this time the US is THE world superpower.
The rest of us are directly affected by who is elected  -  and we have no say in the process.   Sort of harks back to 1776 doesn't it?

In 20 years time I have no doubt that it will be China that will be calling the shots and America will be second place.
The only way the US will avoid that will be to become a superpower block with Canada, Mexico (don't laugh!) and the ABC  -  Argentina, Brazil & Chile.

Europe as far as I am concerned you can forget.  Sorry I'm NOT European  -  I'm half British and half Australian!
The UK have bailed Europe out so many times over the last 500 years that I just can't take it seriously.
They can't even decide which city to hold their so-called parliament in.
Anyway it should be called the Democratic Socialist People's Congress.
ie.  It's Not democratic has nothing to do with the wishes of the people and is all about lining the pockets of the politicians  -  in short F~@k! the people I'm OK.
I regard it as worse than Thailand when it comes to institutionalised corruption!

Frankly I could not give a s#*t who America elects  -  it's just I hope that who ever it is has travelled outside the US on their own
and realises that the other 96% of the world is NOTHING like the US.

Then maybe I can expect to wake up each morning and not have to think  -  what have they f~@ked up today?

          RR.
Pedants rule, OK. Or more precisely, exhibit certain of the conventional trappings of leadership.

I'm hoping Obama wins. He's the very antithesis of the ass-clown in office at the moment; he's intelligent, well spoken, thoughtful and charismatic as hell. That said, if anyone can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory it's the fucking democrats. I REALLY hope I'm wrong, but like some of the other posters here, I have bad feeling that were gonna get fucked AGAIN, and the old fascist Mc Cain will be the next POTUS.
This is still an incredibly stupid and racist country. It's guns and Jesus baby, yeee haw!! The republicans are much better at playing to white fears than the democrats are at. . . winning elections.

Oh kahuna, what were you thinking when you popped this little gem on here ?

You are the last guy I would think I would take exception to but there isn't one line of your above quote I can agree with.

"What difference does it make to you who we elect?"

ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!

Do you appreciate that the sub-prime crisis is now threatening the very foundation of the World's economy & the US$, the de-facto world currency has been bebased & is being devalued to an unsustainable level ?

Once the implications of what has happened are felt in markets around the world, mass panic is going to ensue everywhere.
The next POTUS will face a challenge unprecedented in the history of the world & what he does will change the course of events forever.

It is not a question of whether we make more or less money, or any of your other questions, it is something that far transcends these minor concerns.
The very fabric of how world economies operate are at stake here & how these problems will be addressed is of the most vital concern to all of us.

Financial analysts have moved beyond warning of the possibilty the US economy is in trouble, some are now calling the place a failed state.
This year inflation is being battled on all fronts, next year the expectation is for stagflation to enter the equation, i.e. where you have the crippling combination of a stagnant economy with inflating prices, that will set the scene for the final play - hyperinflation.

And for an example of how that works, look no further than Zimbabwe, where a loaf of bread cost 1/4 million Zim dollars.

I didn't want to go sticking my neck out on this subject, I have quietly been following the topic for years, I know many will jump on me for asserting such outrageous claims, but if you know your history, there is now no way there can be any other outcome.

Check out the circumstances that finished off the Weimar Republic of Germany in the 1920's. A text book case of ignoring inflation by constantly over-inflating the money supply.
How do you think the US is funding their folly in the middle east?
The Federal Reserve is creating billions of dollars out of thin air every day - their GDP would need something like 1000 years of good earnings to ever cover it.

The Yankee peso is dead in the water & nothing any of us can do or say will save it. Perhaps President Ron Paul ........

Sorry kahuna, can I shout you a drink next time I see you?
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

the winner of every U.S. election is the industrial/military alliance, which sucks up ever more of the U.S. budget.
If the DREAM TEAM of Obama/Clinton is possible then the Democrats have the best chance.
It is clear that white working class males are not Obama supporters and that the "good old boys" from the South can't wait to get their rifles from the gun rack in the pick up and go " ****** hunting" if Obama is elected.
McCain will be 70 yrs old if elected and is clearly way past his use by date.Surely Bush has done irrepairable damage to the Republican brand and McCains sucking up to the "religious right" nutters looks ominous.
Apart from an overabundance of military might the rest of the U.S. infrastructure is falling apart. The education system is failing, the health system is failing, the political system is failing, the financial system is failing and the gap between the rich and poor is growing rapidly.
After the 8 year reign of a dumbfuck, ex- drunk, religious fruitcake, ANYBODY must be better.
