  • Mike Leigh

just saw his new film today 'Happy go lucky' ....another great movie from one of Britain's best best directors in my opinion.

i love the characters in his movies.....Just normal everyday people but he manages to show them in a more 3 dimensional way.

    any other fans?

Who the fuck is Mike Leigh?

A quick trip over to wiki tell's me his films were:

    -------------------------
    Bleak Moments (1971)
    Hard Labour (1973)
The Permissive Society (BBC Second City Firsts, 10/04/75)
Nuts in May (BBC Play for Today, 13/01/76)
Abigail's Party (BBC Play for Today, 01/11/77)
    Kiss of Death (1977)
    Who's Who (1978)
    Grown-Ups (1980)
    Meantime (1983)
The Short and Curlies (1987 Short)
    High Hopes (1988)
    Life Is Sweet (1990)
    Naked (1993)
    Secrets & Lies (1996)
    Career Girls (1997)
    Topsy-Turvy (1999)
    All or Nothing (2002)
    Vera Drake (2004)
    Happy-Go-Lucky (2008)
    --------------------------------

Abigail's Party is the only one I've heard off apart from Vera Drake, oh no, wait, I'm thinking Vera Duckworth.

He also did some plays but never heard of those either.

So, can't say I'm a big fan, no.

Probably? Definitely ....... but you are who you are & if you want to tell the world you enjoyed a movie - knock yourself out.

I have seen at least half a dozen off that list above & have the highest regard for Mike Leigh.

All concerned social injustice in the UK, he hated Thatcherism, except Topsy-Turvy, his under-rated biopic on Gilbert & Sullivan.

I enjoyed it very much, but would definitely not be suggesting anyone race out to watch it.

You either like that stuff or you don't.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

Mike Leigh? Dreary slightly surreal films. Now, his ex-missus, Alison Steadman, she could wrestle me to the ground and piss allover my face anytime.

No no no... That's Elvis Costello.

The name rings a bell, but none of those films do. Is he French?

no, no, you're getting confused with Lou Costello

Spike Lee was the Kung Foo guy in Enter The Dragon.

I think he is a damn good director, but he is such a grumpy bastard, that he makes Mr. Grumpy look nice.

BTW, i love The film "Vera Drake", it's about a woman who illegaly helped woman in england have a misscarraige.
                      i love t-girls
