  • Art... (pictures, sculptures and stuff!)

After 47 years of flipping my fingers at all things artistic I've found an artist who's style I like. And luckily for me, her pictures are about ten quid each, too.

I find myself going to her stall once a week and hoping she'll have something new for me to buy. Sometimes she does and sometimes she doesn't.

It gives me an unashamed sense of smug satisfaction to have her pictures on my walls (and I also love looking at them!)

I can't describe why I like them... I just do.

Anyone else have something or somethings of interest in the art department? Do you scour auctions and houses for 'pieces' that you would like to own?

Not to my taste SB but everyone to their own

I have around twenty paintings hanging on the walls of pentire towers here in sunny Suffolk, some are worth a few quid many are just canvases I commissioned in Thailand from photos or other stuff I have picked up from flea markets around Paris, Havana & London over the years.
I'm certainly no expert & infact around 20 odd years ago through a mutual friend I became good friends with a gallery owner in London on the Brompton Rd called Andras Kalman. He urged me to pay £5000 for a small portrait by Laurence Stephen Lowry, I declined and no more than fifteen later that same piece sold for over a hundred grand sterling. Of course I should have known better because Kalman was an absolute authority on works by Lowry.

I voted the first option, although I do not really collect but I'm a painter myself. Attached one of my works of just few years ago

              I like it. Oil?

There is something appealing about well balanced abstract art that I am drawn to.

Acrylic, but I used it as would with oil colours.
That's not exactly abstract, although doesn't belong to a more or less precisely classified style. It's more like a cross of expressionism and surrealism.

I,m not into art in the conventional sense(piantings, modern art),although i do like to see beautiful ceilings and plasterwork which in a sense is art,and i have and will go out of my way to visit old buildings and architecture. The vatican is on my list of must visit, although they will probably throw my non believeing ass out when i arrive LOL
Some old plasterwork is a form of sculpter.
i'm going where the sun keeps shining.................

I love good Art ..... of course that is all subjective in a persons mind, what is good or bad that is

whenever I go to a new city I always check out their Museums and I took a side trip in Florida once just to see the Dali Museum in St Petersburg; they have about 40 of his originals there, that guy was a genius!

                    Love MC Escher also

Mate, if ever you get the chance, go to the house that Dali built, just outside Barcelona. Incredible!

One great and true story about Dali (and it's vaguely relevant as this is a mongers thread). He had a terminal row with his dad, and they never really spoke again after it. In the row, his dad kep going on about how much young Salvador owed him. "There's only one thing I owe you," said Dali, "and I'll let you have it back tomorrow!"

The following morning he sent his dad a little bag of spunk.

The less stuff I have the happier I am. I prefer having access to things rather than ownership.

Was interesting to go to a party at MOMA and see stuff like Starry Night with a wine buzz.
