I've been living in the Far East for far too long. Presently in Hong Kong and, if things go well, I may say good bye to the job world and enter in a sort of retired life.

Not that I'm wealthy enough to retire, buy a yacth and surround myself with babes in their 20's..far from it..but can somehow dwell a decent life somewhere which won't be a ridiculously expensive place.

Reading on the net about the best Places to Live, I've come across some hilarious choice. Iceland seems to be the best place where to live. Now, who on earth picked that must be serioulsy insane. It's one of the most expensive place on earth, and for sure you can enjoy a nice warm weather
Norway being the second best. There goes another deranged platoon of journalists that must have done the choice

Quite positive comments about Argentina for example. Could be an idea! I've bene living in S. America, so no problem with the language and habits.

What about you guys, who are living in al countries and have travelled extensively, would suggest?

What is it about Asia that makes you want to move away? Is it Hong Kong, or all Asian countries you are tired of?

If you are looking to retire some of the Mediterranean countries might be good - Portugal, and Spain are popular spots.

Something you need to consider is the infrastructure - does the country have good health care, communications and transportation? I am not sure what things are like in the South American countries - Ernesto has been to a few of them and might be able to comment further.

      Good luck with your plans!

In Tibet I had one of my most memorable holidays, probably the best after the one at the Galapagos.
However, doesn't cut for me as being my future residence
        Good Yak burgers anyway

In general I'm tired about all Asian countries. They do not offer much in term of quality of life, and I don't intend purely materialistic.

If you are looking to retire some of the Mediterranean countries might be good - Portugal, and Spain are popular spots.

yes, sure. I've also considered places like Greece and Cyprus. The latter seem to have very good infrastructure, English is widely spoken, etc..etc..

Yes, would be interesting to hear!

Good luck with your plans! Thank you!
Geeezz..I hope haven't done a mess adding comments like that..

Nepal. Check out Kathmandu. My friend went there a few years ago and said it was the dirtiest city she had ever seen, and she has seen a few. It would have to be cheap. and also a short flight to LOS.

              Thanks Lefty,
Same as per Tibet, hardly my future residence.
I saw people using the public 'en plein air' toilets in Lhasa when I was there quite some years ago. Not exactly my idea of hygiene

Perhaps it is Best to Travel a few places that You May want to live in and Try Em Out.
Try to live in a place for a month or two, see how it goes and make a choice after testing it out.  Sorta like car shopping you test drive them first

Ah, retirement, something to look forward to once my kiddo is done with college. I plan on retiring early and Cebu City is where I've looked into. I need to live somewhere along a coastline, could never imagine living inland. And along that line of thought and since you mentioned South America, how about Central America? Belize, Costa Rica or Panama might be worth a look. I've never been to Vancouver but someone mentioned health care. Warmer than Iceland.

I remember your posting about Phils. Wish you can make it there!

True about central America. I'm keeping an eye on the countries you mentioned too. Thanks
