  • Beckham hype

Now that Grand Slam Sunday is out the way I'm already getting fed up with the media hype surrounding David Beckhams impending 100th England cap.

He hasn't justified his place for years yet Capello looks like picking him out of sentimentality to appease the media.

Its about time that England moved on from the Beckham era and picked a younger player such as Bentley.

If Beckham is picked to play on Wednesday I can only only assume that Capello is shagging his wife.

    Flippin''ell Tezza lad,
let the lad have his day,he's been an inspiration to the England team
and carried the team single handed when other so called "superstars" failed to produce
    club form at international level...
Sure, there are up and coming players who deserve their chance but their day will come,
but for now just let the lad get his hundredth cap because if anybody over the last 10 years
    has deserved it,it is Beckham....

Beckham has worked very hard to get into the squad and deserves to reach 100 caps.

It's a friendly game and a perfect way to give him the recognition he deserves.

His guile on the field alone makes him a worthy candidate even if he's lost a step in speed.

He should be in the squad based on his skill and he should be there also to reach his 100th cap.

For those of you based in LOS the hype in the English media today is already bordering on the ridiculous.

Beckhams loss of speed results in him dictating a slower pace of attack. The only way an England team can score goals is from a dead ball situation.

Well - I agree with the media hype. Luckily that stuff never makes it out of the UK.

I see it as another England match and I see Beckham as having a chance to contribute against France in a positive way.

          We'll see after the game.

He was never a fast player in the first place..slow paced build ups never did
the Italians or Brazilians any harm over the years..

Well unfortunately, Terry, the other so called superstars dont deserve their caps either.

Give beckham the accolade he deserves and then we can move on with a new(ish) squad into the world cup qualifiers.

Yes - the papers do over-hype things, but in this instance, i think they are getting it right. A straw poll of football fans would want him to get his 100th cap.

I would prefer Beckam to the shower of shit Shaun Wright Phillips starting but your right Terry, Bently is a good shout. Although maybe Capello wants to see if it's worth having Beckam in the squad for the world cup qualifiers or if it's all behind him. It's a perfect game for that. I too am sick of the Media hype surrounding him. Then again I don't think that's entirely his fault. More the muppets who buy the papaers.

On current form, you would have to doubt that DB is worthy of being in the 23 but it would be churlish to deny him his 100th cap - no matter what you think of the hoo-hah that accompanies him he has had a stellar career and been a professional that can truly be considered a good role model.

However, having him get the cap tucked away in Paris at the MacFadden Stadium seems a little poor considering the home friendly against the USA at Wembley would be a much better way of marking the occasion - guaranteeing bums on seats and getting a good atmosphere.

However, it would appear Capello doesn't 'do' sentiment and may just want to get the damn issue out of the way...

                  You'll lose anyway.

I dont think anyone could begrudge him his 100th cap , and as it is only a friendly ..... well everyone gets a game .

The guy has been a great servant to England and a decent captain .

Maybe it says more about the modern English game that a guy with one foot and no pace who has never known to dribble past a full back wins 100 caps

The UK tabloids are trying to break Beckam the way they did Gazza...

But they will lose. He's too smart for those dolts and he's smart enough to not say anything to a journalist that has nothing to do with footy.

Just look at how many goals he created for other players
. If you can lift the ball, pinpoint, over the heads of several defenders to your target man , which he has done many countless times then thats gold for me. Oh yes and the free kicks....

If he dont deserve his caps then no one does..

Dont get me wrong , I agree he deserves the caps , he has been the best England have got in the last 10 years or so , but it just shows todays game is all about physical fitness / tactics / set pieces etc , that is why in my opinion the English game (and all British teams ) have fallen badly behind the rest of the world .

Nowdays its all about power and fitness , theres players getting caps who cant even trap a ball , let alone play a decent pass - check out big Heskey
