No confusion here thanks, i was pointing out that the 160k troops are in Iraq not Saudi as your initial post said.

The protection of the Saudi royal family was the first gulf war in which Saddam had invaded Kuwait, posing a threat to Saudi.

There are now very few American military personnel in Saudi, the final pullout from Saudi being around 2003/2004, they had been present in small numbers (5-10)k since 1991. Now they have pulled back to Qatar, Bahrain, UAE and Oman (where they have been for a long time) obviously with a presence in Kuwait and Iraq.

Well said - since the fall of the Roman Empire western society has been run by people who maintain that we are heading down the plughole - and the only way out is to pay tax, keep quiet and do as you are told.

I told an educated friend who lives in Mumbai about an initiative by my employers   to reduce our carbon footprint. He was baffled, never heard of it, reckoned that its the sort of thing people with too much money and too little sense worry about.
