For those Bush supporters, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart showed a clip of a press session with President Bush - the reporter asked Bush how the average family would cope with rising prices, mortgage payments and projections of gas to reach $4.00 a gallon and Bush came back at the reporter with the question "gasoline, $4.00 a gallon - where did you hear that?" The Daily Show then showed Bush bashing Clinton for oil prices of 31.00 a barrel and $.99 a gallon gasoline - saying that the Democrats had no comprehensive energy policy!

I don't think this is the economic meltdown that will sink the US economy for good - reminds me of the savings and loan debacle that occurred when Regan was president - the US economy recovered fairly well from that although it took a few years!

(buttafly @ Mar. 20 2008,02:46) stopped for gas and some snacks and it cost 60 bucks.
I think Europe is more expensive for gas than the US.
When you buy a gallon of petrol in the UK most of the proceeds go to the Govt in tax who then give it back to the undeserving great unwashed in social benefits....

Anyway they have them cars soon that run on Soya beans and corn oil. Fuck the starving millions the car is important.. grow fuel not food.

The UK is self sufficient in the production of oil yet we are paying about $9 usd for a gallon of petrol (gas).

We have the highest prices in Europe due to taxation and Government policy is to keep increasing these so called green taxes. About 85% of the price of a gallon is taxation.

Its probably 20 years since we were paying the equivalent of $4 usd for a gallon of gas.

funny downside to that idea as well as the other "alternative" methods they are exploring which involve corn and other shit..... as TC says, there won't be any food for people after a while and also there ain't enough cornfields in the whole world to keep up with the fuel consumed!!

Stogie said this to me about a year ago .... "we are probably living in the best time ever to be alive, after this it's all downhill'' and it's becoming more and more true every day. Sure, people probably said that 100 years ago as well, but damn we are all probably better off just leaving this mortal coil in 30 or 40 years rather than face what's coming for our children and grandchildren.

(stogie bear @ Mar. 19 2008,06:52) Say 'Hello!' to India and China, folks!

In three years the USA will be a flat dead and decayed (beyond salvation) economy.

What's more it'll drag the UK down with it...

Out of a sense of loyalty the dullard unimaginative dominoes of Europe will follow suit and the great Olympic dream of China and world domination will fall into place.

And good luck to them... They wanted it the most and they were patient enough to watch the USA fuck up every step of the way...

                My money is in Rupees!
Doom and gloom for the USA, we've heard this before, we'll hear it again. For the record, I'll quote this and we'll revisit in 3 years.

man, am I hoping you're right!!

I wasn't even an apple of anyone's eye back in '29 and I was a pauper in '87 {no, REALLY a pauper} so I never felt those, didn't have any money to buy eventually- useless tech paper in 2000 so I didn't get hurt by those 3 downturns.

                    This one's killing me!!

Hell, can't even go back to Europe anymore, it's just not worth it

Fuck, inflation and the subprime crises are warts on Mirimark's ass compared to the real problems we face.

I'm more afraid of Muslims waging holy war with matches, dull knives or nukes!

And if the throatslitters don't do us in, we'll be slowly strangled to death by do-gooder doomsayers from the environmental movement.

The problems are confined to the poor. The answer is don't be poor.
