There's a fundamental difference between allowing the language to evolve and allowing it to be debased.

Teachers in England in the late 1960s and 1970s stopped teaching grammar and spelling because it was allegedly a block on freedom of expression and creativity. It also 'disadvantaged' immigrants (although they weren't asked their opinion) and the poor.

It was a breathtakingly arrogant attitude on the part of a cohort of people who had themselves benefited from a rule-based education. And it left a whole generation of people unable to spell, read or speak English properly.

Good spelling, grammar and punctuation - as well as formatting - make the forum a much nicer please to be and the posts easier on the eye.

If you notice, Stogie usually forms full sentences (with punctuation) and formats his posts with paragraphs and line spacings. It makes it a lot easier to read (when the post is bigger than a simple one-liner) and I wish more members did it.

There's nothing worse than a 500 word post comprised of a single sentence with no punctuation or formatting and full of poor spelling. I will often ignore those posts.

We all make typos and have blind spots regarding spelling of certain words but a bit of consideration for the readers is nice

I disagree and I delete posts that ask for help if no effort has been made to punctuate them and deliver them in a manner that is mindful and respecting to the people who read this forum.

It's not a question of being an 'English grammar snob.' It's all about a little communal respect for the people here and the education level of this message board.

If this were a computer games forum for kids then that's fine. It isn't. Most people reading this have a good level of education. I believe that most people here want to read posts where an effort has been made to write correctly.

There are a good many people who have voted, that clearly don't mind the casual use of poor English. I'm not one of them.

Why should a porn site be less likely to be concerned with the way people communicate with each other. This particular 'porn site' has an average intelligence way above other forums I've ever had the misfortune to stumble upon.

True enough,there is an unusually high number of quality contributers to this forum..
You see a name pop up and you know your in for a good interesting read...
Others,despite punctuation and spelling errors play a role in keeping the forums moving.
Completely incomprehensible and nonsensical posts should be deleted (some of mine own
only make sense if you live in my post code)..
But life is too short to be worried too much about the occasional spelling mistakes..
Communal respect for fellow board members and the intellectual level is lost more
by the "effing and blinding" many of the posts contain as against the misplaced apostrophe
or the extra o..but as we all know,this is an adult website with members across the globe
with various educational backgrounds all together making maybe the most enjoyable site
on the web,despite the mistakes...
