first time i was in sharkeys in phnom penh they played that one when i entered. good song, great band.

gay or joke, pansy division have some funny lyrics:

    "hockey hair"
    It's such a problem
    It's got me in despair
    He's such a sweetheart
    But he's got hockey hair
    Cut short on top
Long in back, he lets it fall
    A neck-warmer haircut
You can get at any mall
People giggle and stop and stare
And it's not like he's unaware
But he plays hokey so he don't care
Now I'm stuck with a boy with hockey hair
    He's a wicker lover
    He fills me with delight
He'll turn a bedroom hat trick
    Three times in one night
But he won't change his haistyle
    No matter how I try
Though I know he loves me
His first love is the ice
I'd love to sit him in a barber chair
    But I know I don't have a prayer
cause he plays hockey so he don't care
Now I'm stuck with a boy with hockey hair
I don't tell him what clothes to wear
I'd simply rather see him bare
But he plays hockey so he don't care
Now I'm stuck with a boy with hockey hair

    and another one:
    "headbanger"
I saw him at Guitar Center
    He didn't look like a ten-percenter
He was picking up picks and strings
I was into picking up other things
He was a hasher, a hairshaker
Looked to me like a mattress breaker
When he followed me out of the store
I knew he wanted more more more
    He's my headbanger boy
    My heavy metal toy
With a haircut like a girl
He's got me in a whirl
    Headbanger
He turned on the cd player
Did I prefer Metallica ou Slayer?
I said "Whatever will get you hot"
By the second song our clothes were off
His lat boner bobbing up and down
Playing air guitar as he danced around
He pounced on me and said "Let's do it"
He knew what he wanted when we got down to it
With his studs and leather bands
He's got me in his hands
I can't believe I'm his first ever guy
The way he left drained and dry
Then he led me to the door
His girlfriend was coming home at 4
    He's my headbanger boy
    My heavy metal toy
He wants to see me again
When his girlfriend leaves at 10

Reasons to be Cheerful Part 3 by Ian Drury & The Blockheads ..

Reasons to be cheerful part 3

      1 2 3

Summer, Buddy Holly, the working folly
Good golly Miss Molly and boats
      Hammersmith Palais, the Bolshoi Ballet
Jump back in the alley and nanny goats

      18-wheeler Scammels, Domenecker camels
All other mammals plus equal votes
Seeing Piccadilly, Fanny Smith and Willy
Being rather silly, and porridge oats

A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome, we can spare it - yellow socks
Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty
Going on 40 - no electric shocks

The juice of the carrot, the smile of the parrot
A little drop of claret - anything that rocks
Elvis and Scotty, days when I ain't spotty,
Sitting on the potty - curing smallpox

Reasons to be cheerful part 3

Reasons to be cheerful part 3

      Health service glasses
      Gigolos and brasses
      round or skinny bottoms

      Take your mum to paris
      lighting up the chalice
      wee willy harris

Bantu Stephen Biko, listening to Rico
      Harpo, Groucho, Chico

Cheddar cheese and pickle, the Vincent motorsickle
      Slap and tickle
Woody Allen, Dali, Dimitri and Pasquale
      balabalabala and Volare

Something nice to study, phoning up a buddy
      Being in my nuddy
      Saying hokey-dokey, singalonga Smokey
      Coming out of chokey

      John Coltrane's soprano, Adi Celentano
      Bonar Colleano

From Meatloaf's classic album, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light."
"So now I'm waiting for the end of time,
          to hurry up and arrive,
cause if I have to spend another minute with you,
          I don't think that I will survive."
How many times in the past ten years have I begun to sing that song in my head when the magic and the fire went out after a session with an LB.

            Vincent (Starry Starry Night)

            Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and grey,
Look out on a summer's day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
            Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
            Perhaps they'll listen now.

            Starry, starry night.
            Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
            Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
            Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
            Perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
            On that starry, starry night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one
            As beautiful as you.

            Starry, starry night.
            Portraits hung in empty halls,
            Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the strangers that you've met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they're not listening still.
            Perhaps they never will...

                .....aawww, nice song Monkey.
But I dont really understand what this song is all about.   Who is Vincent? And why did the male singer refer to him as "as beautiful as you"? Also, did Vincent commit suicide or something? The lyrics do sound like it. Or is it just me?

The song is about Vincent Van Gogh a Dutch artist who was a little 'mis-understood' at the time.

He spent some time in a mental institution where he went voluntarily and did some of his best work. I think at the time he wasn't appreciated as he is now and probably died penniless as most artists did back then. His work fetches millions of Dollars US nowadays, one went for US$82,500,000

Yes, he comitted suicide, he shot himself but not realising it was fatal he went back to drinking absinthe or something (didn't Hemmingway go the same way?) and died two days later.

And why did the male singer refer to him as "as beautiful as you"?
Beautiful as in 'a beautiful person', not only was he an artist but he was also a teacher and a missionary  in his time. He saw things differently to other people, as all true artists do, but he was also very troubled, nobody is too sure what caused his illness but some say it was either syphillis or absinthe (a very potent alcoholic drink).

At one time he even cut off his own ear which can be seen in one of his self portraits (the one with the bandage on his head)

A beautiful song, about a beautiful man whose life wasn't so beautiful.

Oh, and the male singer was Don McClean, more famous for American Pie.

Thanks Monkey! A very insightful story indeed!    I never knew about this actually. Or perhaps I wasnt listening to my history teacher last time

Hmmm, I do have Absinthe here at my place. Do you think Id make masterpieces if I drink that and, well, get inspired?

I am so lovesick I am miserable...

                      Wish You Were Here

...How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
                      Wish you were here.

I didn't leave my heart in San Francisco, I left it somewhere else, but this is nice...

Tony Fator covers Tony Bennett: I Left My Heart in San Francisco...

The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay
The glory that was Rome is of another day
I've been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan
I'm going home to my city by the Bay

I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars
The morning fog may chill the air, I don't care

My love waits there in San Francisco
Above the blue and windy sea
When I come home to you, San Francisco
Your golden sun will shine for me

You are too young to remember this song. First time I heard was in the early 70's
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!
