BALI, Indonesia - Bombs exploded almost simultaneously Saturday in two tourist areas of the Indonesian resort island of Bali, killing at least eight people and wounding 13 others, police and hospital officials said.

    The victims included foreign tourists.

The blasts at Jimbaran beach and a bustling outdoor shopping center in downtown Kuta "were clearly the work of terrorists," police Maj. Gen. Ansyaad Mbai, a top Indonesian anti-terrorism official, told The Associated Press.

A receptionist at the Graha Asih Hospital close to Jimbaran Bay said at least eight bodies were in the morgue, and doctors were treating at least 13 other people.

"It's a horrible scene," the receptionist, Komang, said.

The blasts came nearly three years to the day that bombings blamed on the al-Qaida-linked militant group Jemaah Islamiyah killed 202 people, mostly foreigners, in Kuta.

The latest bombs went off at about 7:30 p.m. at two restaurants packed with foreign and Indonesian diners.

I Wayan Kresna said he witnessed the first bomb at a seafood restaurant on Jimbaran beach. He counted at least two dead and said many others were brought to a hospital.

"I helped lift up the bodies," he told the private El Shinta radio station. "There was blood everywhere."

Another explosion hit the Raja restaurant in a bustling outdoor shopping center of Kuta, about 18 miles away. All three stories of the building were badly damaged.

The exact number of blasts were not clear. Some witnesses said they heard at least two explosions at each location.

Since the 2002 Bali blasts, Jemaah Islamiyah has been tied to at least two other bombings in Indonesia, both in the capital, Jakarta. Those blasts, one at the J.W. Marriott hotel in 2003 and the other outside the Australian Embassy in 2004, killed at least 23.

Western and Indonesian intelligence agency have consistently warned the group was plotting more attacks. Last month, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he was especially worried the extremist network was about to carry out more attacks.

Did you know that Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world? Being a terrorist in this country would be easy.

I think Bali, though, is predominantly Hindi, isn't it? This new wave of attacks, although disappointing shouldn't really come as that much of a surprise, should it?

Those cunts are at it again..

16 yr old australian kid has been killed and a few other ozzie people are in serious condition, most casualties are local people..
The scumbags had buried at least 6 bombs in the sand at Jimbaran beach where tourists and locals go to dine, apparentley only 2 bombs exploded, thank god as many more would have been killed.

Kuta square was the other place, dont know too much about what happened here, one of the restaurants were bombed.

Bali is predominatley Hindu Island and dont take too kindly to the javanese muslims...

It probably wont be the last bomb, only a matter of when's the next one..

Just goes to show how gutless these fuckers are, preying on mainly innocent village people..

The sooner we execute the fuckers for the 2002 bombing we have in custody, the better.

and to think that some countries outlaw the death penalty. i'm surprised the guy(s) in prison for the 2002 bombings are still among the living. at least we should turn them into useful animatronics that can be used to produce useful statements renouncing their acts, etc.
Retired the top 12.  Need a new dirty dozen.

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.

Not any more ... I first visited 10 years ago, and it had a relaxed, warm Hindu character to it, with its own unique twist. Their main goddess is Cili, the rice goddess, who doesn't appear anywhere else in the Hindu religion.

I returned about 2 years ago, and it was nothing but Muslim hawkers. Nasty pushy little people, who you'd guess would rob you blind the moment you turned your back. They come from Jakarta because the pickings are easy in Kuta. Bali was destroyed by Muslims then. The bombings (I guess) are just a formality as far as they are concerned.

Yes indeed it is the end for Bali tourism. Reports say that 75% of the tourists are leaving the place and the locals will go into meltdown without the holiday dollars.

Like some one said before ,,eventually Tourist Thailand will be hit, its not if ...... its when, that you can be sure off. Sad for sure but reality can be a kick in the head at times. We just dream that it wont happen.

In the last 10 years i have just missed being killed by at least 4 Terrorist bombs , was just 5 minutes away from being wiped out in the last AQ blast and escaped the Tsunami by 20 yards. I reckon ive used all my lives up. The die may roll differently
                      next time.

It gives you a different view on affairs if nothing else. I totally agree with Bali ken.
