in the uk now there is a lot of news about bird flu and the possibilities of it mutating to pass from human to human and in thailand this week someone died from the strain by eating an infected chicken.would it stop you from travelling to los or is it over hyped scare mongering ?my view is up to now it has only killed 60 people world wide and there are probably more dangers in the tropics than bird flu? Daz.

Yawn... pharmacutical companies drumming up trade again, eh? Or polititions showing us how much they care... or doctors desperate to get published in The Lancet...
It's all crap. I'll eat chicken or beef and the more chemicals and fat the better.
You really have to get down and dirty with a raw infected chicken before you contract bird flu. If one person in Thailand has died then I'm more worried about riding on a motorcycle than I am about this latest scare.

Not an issue now as the virus only incidentally infects humans. The problem will come if it mutates to a form that likes human hosts and is spread by person-to-person contact or aerosolization (cough/sneeze). Is this likely? Who knows. It sells newspapers when other news is slow.

2 years ago when I was in Thailand there was the scare going on€¦ the sad thing was seeing all the perfectly healthy ducks, chickens, and other birds on the news being rounded up and put in plastic bags to suffocate and die.
I remember going into a KFC that was abandon since everyone was afraid to eat there€¦ this is how bad it was€¦ however I ate KFC !!!! and the girls I was with thought I was crazy.

Bring back SARS
The thing about SARS that nearly got me was here I come back from a Bangkok trip in Feb 2003 to Toronto and I had a case of the Flu that was just setting in as the plane was landing and my head felt like it was about to pop as the pressure in the plane built up€¦ I was in agony.. I get off the plane and now I can€™t hear anything€¦ I€™m totally deaf, I go through Immigration and I have no idea what the guy said to me€¦ most likely €œwelcome back€ so I get out of there and home and had this nasty Flu for 2 weeks€¦ well just a month later SARS surfaces in Toronto and they are now screening everyone arriving at the airport from Asia€¦ shit if I had come back a month later I might have been quarantined!.
