10 years I've been on the NET!

In November 1995 I connected my then new IBM 486 to a new service using a 14k modem. This new service I'd heard so much about was called the Information Super Highway... better known today as the Internet. Netcom Canada had sent me a floppy disk.. Remember those things? They wanted me to try out there new service for free.. I stuck it in my A drive and executed the install.exe. I then could hear my modem dialing out and then up came a screen asking me a question

"Welcome to Netcom... where would you like to go today?"

There was a place I had heard so much about in a Penthouse magazine under my bed... it was a magical place in a far off land where the women are wild and the sex is abundant. This place was called Patpong and this is the first thing I ever searched for on the Internet! Most of what I got information on was in text but there was a picture... it was from a book about the Patpong sisters.

I've been to Thailand many times now all thanks to the Net. I sometimes think of what my life would have been like if I didn't put that little floppy disk in my old 486's A drive that day.... I'm very thankful for the Net as it's given me the opportunity of a lifetime that I'd otherwise have pass me by...
