OK... for the 'holier than thou' brigade... what's a minor, please? Someone who is below the age of consent in YOUR country? Someone who is sexually active and below the age of consent in the country you are a guest in?

My own view is that one should respect the laws of each country and err on the side of caution.

Personally, shagging young girls doesn't do a thing for me. 15 or over seems like a good sensible Thai law to me. 18 years is ridiculous. Most humans are interested in sex at a younger age than this. A pedophile (in my dictionary) is a person who has sex with a pre-pubescent child. Probably someone who is around 12 or under. Only a medical doctor can really determine each individual case. I don't think this should be legal, but neither do I suggest death or castration is the answer.

I have a much bigger problem with people who beat up and physically harm minors and children. Or send them off into slavery or other forms of labor. Also if we are pointing the finger at purveyors of abuse we should crucify all Christians and stone all Muslims. This is the real social filth in the world today.

I suppose the real test is "are they cognizent of what they are doing" and "are you taking advantage of them?" Many 15 year olds in Thailand are very, very cognizent of what they're doing. I know some 15 year olds in Canada who are not (like my daughter)! The difficulty, of course, is how do you judge that.

I think just use common sense where you are, and certainly respect the laws of the country. To not do so is just stupid. But even within those laws, if you have a somewhat mindless, innocent 17 yr old, don't do it, if you're really taking advantage of her because of her state of mind or knowledge.

Glitter's history shows him as erring too far on one side consistently and likely having done much worse than is publicized.

Very noble Stogie. Very noble. I am glad you are able to always decipher Thai ID cards so you can know beyond a doubt that this or that particular lb who looks to be a solid 18 years old is not really a 16 year old who is faking it by using a fake or borrowed ID.

OK I apologise I should have elaborated on what I meant by a minor. I am not necessarily referring to what the law says but as Ziggy puts it girls/lb who are mentally mature enough to understand what they are doing and decide for themselves.

I know it may sometimes prove to be difficult to know if the girl is legal under the local law with id cards and such. I always try my best to find out.

I am not condemding guys who have been the odd 17 year old in LOS as I have been there myself even though it is not techincally legal and you can get yourself in a whole mess of trouble. I am condeming those people who prey on very young kids in order to stimulate themselves sexually.

Firstly I never claimed that Aussies have it right and Iran have it wrong. Secondly your analogy of drinking laws is just pointless as if someone is drinking underage I think we can all agree that this does not come close to being sexually assaulted when at an age where you cannot even begin to understand the meaning of sex let alone make an informed decision as to your participation.

Sex with a 10 year by an adult is rape as the mental capacity of most 10 year olds would never make that a consensual action surely.

I have two daughters.. 21 and 10.

If I asked them whether they would like to have sex with someone for an hour or be beaten up for an hour I'm just guessing but I think they'll choose the sex option. Of course in an idea situation they'll choose neither of the options.

I'm simply saying that people make too much of the sex issue.

If children were taught all their lives that eating sugar was bad and made you a less worthy person then kids would feel guilty about eating suger or being forced to eat suger by some sugar-crazed adult. But in actual fact sugar doesn't hurt you. It's just the mental filth forced on you when you are young. Sex actually doesn't hurt - even if you don't understand it!

That doesn't mean I think it's right. I don't and I'm glad there are laws protecting the young from predatory adults. But what I DO get worked up about is the hysteria that surrounds it. The hysteria is out of proportion to the crime.

Where is the outcry from the public when old people are mugged and even raped. Where is the outcry of the hundreds of thousands of African children working 18 hours a day and sold into indentured servitude? Where are the fat comfortably off moralists when the starving of the world are on TV?

My God - there are so many worse things in the world than the handful of people who want sex with under 18s! :0
