  • Buying an apartment in bkk

It suddenly dawned on me yesterday, i spend so much bloody time in BKK these days and shell out a load of cash for hotels, that I may as well buy an apartment here, i know there a few guys on the board who live here full time, can any of you who do give me a few pointers?

It's a great idea Gunslinger! Now I'll have a place to crash in the event that a ladyboy sneaks back into my room while I'm gone (yes this happened on my trip - details to come in my trip report!).
I'm a rough-ridin', hootin' and hollerin', ladyboy lovin' cowboy! Bang bang yer dead!!!

Be careful of an unfinished place, they might go bankrupt before you move in !!
Otherwise, pick a neighberhood near skytrain or subway. Lots of new stuff being built off Ratachada to take advantage of subway.

and don't forget to leave a key with me to look after the place when u are out of town.

I might actually have to go into the trip reports forum for this one! Sounds very interesting!

I would live here for at least 6 months before you decide to buy here.

                Has anyone considered a time-share?

Where say 4 guys shell in for it? Only downside is you'd have to visit at different times. Well, you wouldn't HAVE to, but you'd have to to avoid problems sharing the bedroom.

                Still it's a thought.

Trust me guys, it's a good story!

Also, I like Grunyen's idea of a timeshare. For frequent visitors to LOS, that would make a lot of sense. And Snick has graciously volunteered to look after your property while you are gone!

for us westerners its cheap to rent, so i dont see why you have to buy.
even things are more stabilized, you never know who can buy your building and throw everyone on the streets. and as a foreigner you will not have any rights to get your money back.
as for stuff bargirls into your apt while your gone, i wouldnt recomend it.
i think it would be a better tactic to rent a condo and use a hotel for your ladies, then you wont have them running down your doors any hour of the day.
this happened to me last year in pattaya, and i had to change from a condo i liked very much. i'd taken several bgs to my apt and they kept showing up at every odd hour, and sometimes while i had vistor(s). and some made a ratchet outside and kept on name-swearing me. especially one incident was embarrasing since i had a non-working bkk lady with her sister and this drunk walking street bg standing outside my room shouting for 10mins until the security removed her.

anyway, my basic rules in los are, keep my money in farang bank and dont invest in thailand. there are some many examples of farang that loose their money on property and other investments(read bars, restaurants, gogos, stores)

I've been contemplating buying a condo in Thailand for a while also...but I've come to the conclusion that renting makes a lot more sense. Read this article:

                      http://www.thaivisa.com/condominium_thailand.0.html

(I hope Im not breaking any rules by pasting in a thaivisa address)

                        Interesting thought.

Let's say you have one guy who comes for a month a year, another guy or twowho blows in for weekends from HK or KL.
Then you top it off with a permanent BKK resident who lives there most of the time but vacates to cheapo place when the other partners are in town.

In Pattaya there are some decent places for 3K baht a month 36K baht a year. Wouldn't be a bad place to leave my golf clubs except I don't golf.
