Rugby World cup was 2003
,, but the ashes loss was an unexpected bitter pill to swallow , but it will be helpful in the long run to strengthen the game in Oz
, it has boosted the popularity of cricket greatly .
It wasnt all doom and gloom in 2005 , we did qualify for this years world cup and we did also have the number 1 rookie drafted in the NBA .Comment

Forgive the dumb questions:
That seems an odd holiday to celebrate when Britain took control of Australia. Is Australia still considered a colony, or is it independant?
Sorry if I'm a boob for not knowing.
Several countries celebrate their day of freedom from colonialism. If Australia IS now independant, is there also a freedom holiday?
Do you guys have a big chuckle over Outback?
Are there any stupid restaurants in other countries that purport to resemble "American culture"? (I don't think McDonalds counts)Comment

Yes believe it or not we are still a constitutional monarchy. We did have a referendum about 8 years ago? to become a republic but the pollies managed to confuse the issue enough that people got scared.
Looking culturally and politically at the moment you would think we were a American colony not British.I don't get it, is this a magic show?Comment

I think that's why I always like the Australians.
They seem to be just somewhere between the class of the English, and the down to earth goodness of American rednecks. And a great combination of the two in the sense of humor department.
Plus they all wrestle crocodiles. How can you go wrong when Paul Hogan and Steve Irwin are your cultural ambassadors.Comment
