Hi to all. i know this forum is called asiants, but i was wondering if anyone could share some info/tips on where to buy a tailored suit in bkk: what to look out for, what area to go to, etc....
    thanks for the info.

ps, if all goes well, those of you in bkk in june will notice me as the young canadian guy wearing a smart suit, with a stunning lb on each arm, having a big buddha smile on my face from ear to ear...

I've tried about 5 or so. Don't look for lowest price else you'll get crap. Price is about 75% based on the material you pick (so the cheap prices are cheap awful material). The other 25% is usually due to a better place vs a fly-by-night.

I like the place on Sukhumvit, near Soi 8, called...damn it...forgot the name as I go there so much I never look at the name. If you PM me, I'll get it when I get home. Stephen Segal buys there so it can't be too bad, and it is not expensive.

In the past three years I bought suits and trousers from four tailors, one in BKK and three in Pattaya. First set of trousers I bought cost me a fortune in BKK, down the street from Boys Inn. Don't remember the name. They were exquisitely cut from cashmere. The only problem I ever had with them is that buttons began to fall off. Nothing more than a nuissance, really, but at nearly 7000 bt for the three pair, I did expect better. The fit and wear, however was excellent. Shop owner and tailor were both Thai. In Pattaya I ordered a cashmere suit from an Indian Tailor. It was cut so badly (It wore like a burlap sack with pockets) that, despite the 2400 baht investment, I took it back to the tailor and told him to keep it because when I tried to hang it in my closet, my other suits threatened to walk out in protest. He did not believe me.
On a subsequent trip to Pattaya, a farang friend recommended another tailor from India. I was in a rush so I bought two suits when he promised me the style I wanted. These were supposed to be cashemere also, but they are a cheaper grade. They were little better than the previous suit, even after three fittings. This time I kept them and sprang for another $50 each for alterations by a Mexican tailor when I returned to the States. They are not too bad, now. Again, I had a button problem and the hem of one leg came undone. Poor workmanship.
My last trip, I thought I would give it one more try, pledging to avoid Indian tailor shops at all costs. In Pattaya, just off Second Street and about two blocks south of South Pattaya, there is an Indian Temple. Just east of that is a little tailor shop which looks like the poster child for The Thai  Small Business Administration. I do not believe he did a lot of business because I swear I saw dust on his needles and he had only a few bolts of material sitting around the shop. He was Thai and he spoke some English. I decided to take one more risk, but this time I held an Ace kicker. I had brought with me a sport coat that was just beginning to show signs of age, but fit me like a dream. I asked him if he duplicate it. He called in his seamer, another Thai, and they assured me they could. Right!
Two days later I went back for the fitting. At first I was skeptical, but they begged for patience. The next day, I tried on the finished product and could not have been more pleased. The price of the suit was 3,000 baht, about 75% of those I bought from the Indian.
I wear suits to work a great deal and this one is now my favorite. I need one more to complete my wardrobe and I will be returning in May. This time I think shark skin.
