  • Fine Wine

For many years one of my interests has been collecting/tasting and enjoying the world's finest wines, and now it is how i earn my (meagre!) living.

I also enjoy the best gourmet food and i will save to eat a meal at the best restaurant i can, including gordon Ramsey, The Fat Duck, The french Laundry and many others to name a few.

Just wondering if anyone else shares this passion?

I'm someone you hate... Taco Bell is a yearning I have had for years ever since I left America.

I've had good nosh at nice places in the past, but the portions are too small and I end up having to order desert just to get full!

Give me fish fingers over trout almondine anyday!

Patrick says the same thing. When we eat out on the company dime I'll hit the 50 Baht chicken kebab shack and I'll enjoy it just as much as Tony Romas! (TRs is fine dining here, BTW!)

Seriously though - "good" food is simply a waste on me and so too is good wine. I really can't appreciate it and feel bad for wasting everyones time and effort!

Last really posh nosh I had was donkeys years ago at a place called "The Balconey" in Dallas. I had a crap and quarter sized portion of Beef Stroganoff, which I normally love, and vowed never again to spend more than a fiver on dinner!

Mind you - I'd be up for educating from a pro who I knew his stuff. Maybe I've just been unlucky or simply ripped off!

I eat in restaurants about six months a year at some one elses expense all round the world.

The novalty factor wore off years ago & the majority just annouy me now, any western restaurant in Europe couldn't even spell service never mind actually provide it, & the quality of the food is generally pretty mediocre.

Service & taste is what its all about for me, if the wines US$1.00 a gallon & it tastes OK that will do nicely, frankly only Asia & South / Latin America have got the service thing sorted & the food is generally pleasant to eat as well.

          That gets my vote.

You pays your money & takes your chance. This isn't a rehearsal do it now, it's no good looking back when it's a lover & wishing.... ITS TOO LATE.

I was born in Napa.  Must be something in the air because I do have a love for wine.  Although it dosen't  matter much any longer if it's expensive or inexpensive.   In fact these days I usually just fill my rack with inexpensive cheap Italian red from a California chain called Trader Joes.

As for food, I enjoy good food.  Fresh fish and Italian top my list.  I also like crap - food that is.  Not necessarily fast food...but mom's home style cooking (not my mom's though).

And, I am really looking forward next month to sampling all the tastes of Thailand - including a tasty ladyboy.

              Trader Joe's rocks!                  :coffee:
They just opened the first one here in NYC.  Very popular sometimes a line to get in. And this is a supermarket!

Atmosphere is also important.   As in under the stars lying down on huge beach mats in Ko Samet. Tasty dinner for two, say splitting a whole fish, and some  sides and drinks all for 500 baht, including tip.

Most of my memorable dining experinces have been al fresco. Besides the beaches of Thailand, enjoyed some fine meals in Tuscany, but these were not expenive places.

I'm a crazy foody and generaly into everything that's good, which doesn't necessarily mean that it's expensive. You can have awsome food on Asian streets for nothing and crap in 4 star restaurants.
.... only the wine has unfortunately it's price.....
Food comes for me right after sex.... and when I recall some memories, often it was even better!!!

I love top end restaurants, with great wine and atmosphere.

May and I go to one usually at least 2 times per week.

                  Can't get enough of it.

I dont like the "top" restuarants as people are just going there to be seen and treat it as an experience rather than a good feed.
Give me a huge plate of rib eye steak over the tiny steaklets.

My father told me that some of the best food is found at truck stops. Those truckers know how to get a good, tasty, satisfying meal and when I am driving a long distance I always stop to eat at a truck stop.

the service in England is shit and expensive,in los the service is great and most of the time so is the food.in a thai restaurant the service is first class as they are so overstaffed( due to low wages i suppose ?) as for wine in los thats a different story(expensive, wrong temperature etc...) i find french wine over rated, give me australian or californian anytime
