Forgot to mention, when this delicious fruit becomes available fresh in the local Thai markets here in the Bay Area I rush right out and purchase one. After an initial pigging out I use the rest to make an out of this world ice cream. Yum, yum, my mouth is watering as I write this. I guess for the majority here even eating fried bugs is out of the question also. So close minded to the culinary adventures that await those with a sense of daring do.Comment

I'm the only one who voted for the second option..strange..
In fact, the taste in itself is nothing so special, if you just can go thru the smell barrier.
I've tried candies, very popular (of course) in S'pore and M'sia, tried the ice cream too, the dried fruit and the fresh one. It's about the stench that linger in the after taste. A bit like eating silk worms, taste is not that horrible after all but the after taste smell reminds you of cow dung.
I reckon there are more exciting tastes around with a much nicer smell
