Let me get this straight... you want to move from one continent to another continent because one continent is closer to a third continent than the other?

Oh my God! Just move to Thailand!

If money and work are the most important thing then stay where you are. If your social life is, then move to Thailand.

I can promise you this - doing the same job in Australia will NOT get you more booty in the LOS! You'll end up with less money, living in a place you don't know, having the same dreams of flying to LOS whenever your work/budget will allow you!

The whole idea is daft. Stay where you are.

Stogie you are chasing me one board after another. My rear is getting hit so much I am turning bottom ....
Well, all your points are RIGHT ON the money though. I'm coming to this conclusion too. It doesn't make any sence. Moving to Thailand is the ultimate goal - that's retirement for me. No point of making a detour in between.

Many of us want to retire in Thailand but if you you are still relatively young like me this could be a long way off.

I think the idea of moving somewhere closer where maybe you get more annual leave and flying time is less where the exchange rate is still pretty good and cost of living is in proportion to what you earn is not such a bad idea.

No reason not to investigate the possibility if you ask me. If that means moving to somewhere in Australia or say Singapore then so be it.

Of course for this to become a reality many things need to happen but we all have dreams and sometimes just the dream itself is enough.

Stogie not sure what makes you say he will get less money. Of course if you look at dollar for dollar it might be less but his money might actually go further.

Sorry, mate. I'm not following you around. I honestly don't pay too much attention to the names on posts that I answer. I just read them and decide whether or not to react to them.

I guess you happen to have a few questions or ideas that I have an opinion about!

Ozzie... When you take into account re-location, selling up and moving across the world then you'll end up poorer. I wasn't referring to how much Aussie jobs pay compared to US ones. I wouldn't even begin to know the answer to that.

Point is that, when you add up all the expenses and mistakes, an Aussie can live far more cheaply in Australia than a foreigner can!

Basically - living near Thailand (and Australia isn't even that close) is just the same as NOT living near Thailand. What's the point?

Either move here or plan to.

It ain't that cheap any more. Its a great place, clean, plenty to do, great weather and friendly people. Prices are going up every day especially in Queensland beacause a lot of people from cold climets like the beaches and all round good weather. House prices are going through the roof and because of extreme drought food prices are up nearlly every week. Stoogie is 100% correct when he says its cheaper for a Aussie to live.It is quite cheap if you know the lay of the land . There is plenty of work out here for all trades and professions and to get a work visa now is a lot easier then it used to be. I can tell you for a fact though, what you earn will soon be gone . To have a holiday in Australia is very expensive if you compare it to Thailand and thats why so many of us go to LOS. Petrol is now $1.38a litre and climbing, to hop in a taxi costs $3.50 before you start and as for a girl for a hour, $200.00 is normal. For those of you who smoke, $11.50 for 25 cigs is normal. A $5 Thailand tee shirt will cost you $25.00 and proably wont last as long and the memories are not as good.
I love Australia and I love to visit Thailand but Australia is my home. Its all realative, the cost of living and the wages earned.

Nope, just I happened to be writing those questions while I was with Old man Jack.
I think you are right. I moved too often and too much, within US. I always have good stories to tell. But I wasted a lot of money, way delayed on my dream of early retirement .. sigh ... see how I almost wanted to make another (bigger) mistake ...

What stops most of us from simply upping sticks and moving over here is the idea of not having much money and not having a very good job!

Both of these reasons are legitimate concerns and you'd be daft not to take them into consideration when making life-altering decisions.

My own personal view has been that money and work can follow my happiness.
I've been lucky - it's always worked out that way!

                      (katoeylover @ May 20 2006,14:20) Hoddeson,

How do you intend getting a Visa to live there?
Thats ok we let any one in here but we may draw the line at ceptic tanks yanks.

Just joking we let people in under skills visa higher the skills more chance, also business visa are great.

Well employment pass is the way to go for singapore earn over 2500 sdg a month or have a degree and you can get one. Singapore loves it people they can get good money but is based in singapore currency not usd.

but companies tend to give package deals depending on jobs some western people are on free house severants cars (the big insentive as singapore soooo expensive for cars and getting registered)
