Great pictures. I love old black and white pics.
It's so interesting to look at those and try to imagine being there, your whole world looking like that. (not black and white obviously- I mean that 50's 60's style)
I was going to post some of those pictures with my own made-up captions but I decided I'm too lazy.
Look through them, I swear some of them are saying "Me love you long time"... and some are saying "I didn't see your cell phone Mr. Hansum"
I know at least one is saying "Up 2 you"
I'm in love with the little cutie with the pigtails behind the bar.
Anyone else notice if you back up to the root page he's "partnered" with some Nail Care place.
Anyone else sensing a back story there? I'd guess this cat brought back his little brown honey, and they lived happily ever after. He does his photo work and she runs a nail salon.
It worked for me just now. It looks like he redid his site a little the last couple of days.
Glad you guys liked them, espec my bros PD and Ozzie, but we have Ramboz to thank for them. He sent me the links. I just passed them on to everyone in my address book that has been to Thailand or expressed interest.
I love seeing all those Issan girls and outside of the hairstyles they don't look much different than today.
I'd guess that most anyone from the USA that went to LOS in the 1960s was going as a guest of Uncle Sam as a member of probably the USAF, though the other branches were represented too. We had USAF bases at Korat, NKP, Udorn, Ubon, Takli, U-Tapao and Don Muang off the top of my head. Though all four of the major services would have had members on R&R going to Thailand. We had some posts about certain hotels being GI R&R hotels back then. The Raja Hotel, which now is a dilapidated old thing you can see on Soi 4 same side as the Nana Hotel further down, was an R&R hotel. The Grace was an R&R hotel I think for officers. The 27 Hotel which is down off Soi 22 near Washington Square was an R&R hotel for enlisted men. The Miami on soi 13 may have been one too.
The name of the R&R hotel for NCOs escapes me at the moment, but it has been mentioned in the Bkk Hotels thread in the Travel Section of the forum.
I would really doubt if many, if any, non military types were traveling to LOS in the 60s seeking the company of Thai ladies or ladyboys.
