Dear fellow forum members!
I just came back about an hour ago, from watching the game Australia: Japan live in the stadium.
Let me repeat that for you: I was actually in the stadium! First time for me to ever see a world or even European cup match. The atmosphere before the game in downtown Kaiserslautern was already brilliant. The whole town looked yellow, it was full of Australians! There were also some Japanese in the city, but easily outnumbered by the ozzies. In the stadium however, things looked a bit different, as it seemed that there were a few more Japanese than ozzies, maybe 60:40.
I got the feeling, that the majority of the Germans in the stadium were on the Australian side, their keeper Marc Schwarzer, actually used to play for the Kaiserslautern football club, at some time in the past.
The japanese shouted and chanted much more and louder than the ozzies. I think, when I go to sleep tonight, I will still hear the chants: "Nippon, Nippon".
That goal for Japan looked very dodgy indeed, even without a slow-mo replay on the t.v. The game itself was not very good at all, maybe one of the weakest ones of this world cup so far, but when the ozzies equalised in the 84th minute, the whole place went bananas, well except for the Japanese of course. But they still shouted "Nippon, Nippon" after that first ozzies goal, but when they scored the second one, the japs went all quiet and the third one must have sent them into shock. When the game was over, a few japanese even had tears in their eyes, they surely looked like the sure winner of this game. I think the local bar and pub owners are very happy, that Australia won this game, they drink and party more than the Japanese, who mostly travel in boring group tours. The Australians were very friendly all around, brilliant atmosphere, absolutely no violence, or even the threat of it. That's how I like to enjoy football!
What's next?
On Saturday I will go back to the very same stadium and watch the Italy against USA game. Around Kaiserslautern is the US Air Force base "Ramstein", the biggest USA Air Force base in Europe, with plenty of Americans. I am sure there will be a lot of them in the stadium, could almost be like a home game for them.
I will tell you how it was then.
Bye for now! Mcqueen

Hello Mr SBear, where are you? You seem to have gone quite on us. Now that wasn't to hard losing a few thousand dollars in Australia's first game. Luckliy I pited you and offered the free dinner instead.
Now, I will start with...........ummmmmm......Garlic Bread followed by Pasta, salad and a ladyboy of my choosing for desert.
Now how many goals did Australia score and how many goals did England score in the first round of matches?
ummmmm, should I bet him that Australia scores more goals than England in the first 3 matches??
Maybe that will bring him out from under the rug
