So, you are a butterfly, and butterflies are free. You search among certain flowers and, conscious of their mimicry, you regularly dip in head first and taste nectar sweetly dripping. You are free and in control, until one day you find that this or that nectar tastes like love. You recoil, instinctively, but its too late. You are still a butterfly, and you've been trapped.

This is my thought experiment: your best buddy is the butterfly, and you see he is in a trap. You know what he's feeling, thinking, doing, and the final scene from "Runaway Train" comes to mind. You're the coach. Coach him out.
