  • Evolution: True or false?

    The survey and results!

Well, I'm a believer. All the evidence I have seen or read makes sense to me! (I'm guessing that readers here are at least 95% sure that evolution is the natural way of things, too, but I've been surprised before on some polls!)

Do you know people who absolutely let their hearts and beliefs rule their heads?

Why are the U.S. and Turkey amongst some of the worst countries in the world when it comes to accepting the theory of evolution. Why do they even question it? Is it even that much of an issue outside of religion?

More and more polititions in the U.S. seem to think that questioning the theory of evolution will grab them a larger share of the (conservative) votes.

For me it just makes too much logical sense and I'm afraid that Genesis is just a story that was a nice read when I was about 7 years old.

Do you have wacko teachers who shove this Christian fundamentalism down your kids throats? Are you offended that people should slight the bibles role over this issue?

    Do you even care?

Can't say i care that much, though I can say i don't believe the Big Bang or Genesis theories.

Seems like evolution may be proved conclusive at some time, but right now there are more important things to worry about in the World today.
seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

Come on Stogie don't you know the Earth's only 7000 years old created by bearded guy in the sky and a man with a big boat saved 2 or every species......

I have read some books by Joseph Campbell and I like what he says about myths and religion i.e. that they are not ment to be taken literally as historical facts, but instead as symbols or as metaphors for a way of life.

Science never has the definitive answer, it will always question and expand the boundaries of what we know. Religion is backwards facing, especially extreme elements, needs to control people, brainwash them and not let them think for themselves. The problem is also when politics and religion get mixed together and it becomes about power, then people can use religion as an excuse to take peoples freeom away. I'd better stop there before I start religion bashing because that is not what the post is about.

I can't believe in some schools they want to teach creation as an alternative to evolution, creation has no place in a science class. It has nothing to do with scientific method.

      Evolution is a fact.
I don't get it, is this a magic show?

I feel like evolution is a fact, but I'm also deeply religious (could you tell? haha) in the fact that I do believe in a higher intelligent power (aka God). To me, I don't see any reason why the two can't exist - without going into the whole seven days of creation argument I am willing to accept that there are things in the world that I do not or cannot comprehend.

I am a biproduct of the Rib of man.

          Dudezzzz !   We're freaks of nature in my opinion.   And when I'm dead;
They wrap you in a clean white sheet
and bury you six feet deep.
          The worms crawl in,
          The worms crawl out.
The ants play Pinochle on your snout.
And puss comes up like thick whipped creame.

But I believe in God,  JUST IN CASE that dude really walked on water and shit !
          My question is;
Where did that Little particle of matter come from that caused that
          BIG FUCKING BANG ?

I once met some Monkeys who tried to steal my lunch, when I and my friends scared them off with a stick they climbed up on a tree above me and proceeded to piss on us.

I am 100% convinced that we are descended fromt those Monkeys.

( and God has better things to do with his time, then burying some disnour bones just to test our faith )

Its important to those science nuts like me. As Socrates said 2 millenia ago at his trial;" the unexamined life is not worth living"

Evolution is the best explanation that we have at the moment for what we observe. They have just found fossil microbacteria from around a billion years ago by way of a special scanning microscope so that puts paid to the idiots who think that think life was created 6000 years ago,

The evolution of the Universe is even more interesting and if you really want to rack the brain cells then try loop quantum gravity which postulates that Space does  not really exist as we think of it and that the Universe is just a sort of computer program that we are all a part of. Its just an Hypothisis but one that has credibility.

              also
Where do these creationist nuts turn to when they need serious medical treatment--- yes, they want the best medicine that Science can offer.....while at the same time rejecting its basic tenets.

i've been to the Eden Club so put me down for 95%.

What passes for truth is often disproved centuries later.  Not so long ago, the best and the brightest thought the world was flat.

i met a smart monkey in Udon Thani.  There's this park there where the monkeys roam freely.  Most would come up and grab a peanut out my hand.  But an old fat monkey instead grabbed my pants leg and wouldn't let go attempting to get multiple peanuts.  But i'm no dummy     so I threw a peanut a few feet away so he'd let go.

I understand that there is less than 3% difference bwtween the DNA of a Human and the DNA of a Chimp...

Millions upon millions of little DNA strands floating around in us and less than 3% difference between a
                  Homo sapien and a Chimpanzee....

Even though we spring from a different evolutionary branch than Chimps, that is more than amazing and more than a creationist's coincidence....

Do some folks really believe that a "God" created such amazing beings with the snap of a finger?

And  Snick, I don't know about the monkeys that you met that pissed on you, but they sound as if they are really close in DNA to some of my friends....
Did you happend to get their names???

                    It's a matter of equity:
                    - If evolution served your family line well, then you think it's great and believe in it.
                    - If, however, you're a neanderthal and evolution has left you as some inbred genetic cesspool, then as, like most people, you believe you're top of the food chain, you realize it couldn't be the work of evolution, so you don't believe in it.

Take GWB: not the product of forward progress in evolution, so why should he scratch evolution's back, if it didn't scratch his?

Retired the top 12.  Need a new dirty dozen.

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.
