if you like sprints in the dirt, then take a look at speed channel when they show drifting competitions. awesome rice-rockets that never come out of the slide...on pavement. I think the show's called nopi.

Yes, I have seen the show.  Its pretty cool.
Looks like a lot of fun, but they never really get over about 80mph.

Good riddance I say. No offence to NASCAR, Indy etc. but let's face it...F1 is the top of the heap.

I dont think Montoya would be so 'excited' to be going to NASCAR if his F1 career hadn't been such a dismal failure.

agreed, thanx for someone else stepping up into reality. and yea, the eyecandy in the flick was amazing, what I didn't understand was why they picked an aussie as the female lead in a japanese city?

Top of the Heap ? I don't know about that.

Keep in mind something. Different types of racing require different types of driving styles.

NASCAR has a Lot of fender on fender and Bumper to Bumper racing. You can race your opponent side by side only inches apart at nearly 200mph.
Now that is very intense and exciteing.
You can't do that in F1 racing for any Length of time at those speeds.

I also realize in F1 racing it is much, much more difficult to enter and exit corners at a high rate of speed.
My hats off to the F1 drivers. I'm not taking anything away from them. I am NOT calling them Less Talented than Nascar drivers.

For me, from a Spectators perspective, I think Nascar and Dirt Sprints are more fun than F1.
From a driving perspective whos better ?

I find it hard to compare. Different kinds of racing takes different kinds of Talents. Not that one man couldn't learn them all.

Thanks for not flaming me! I could have been clearer in my post. When I said 'top of the heap', I meant that F1 is the fastest (barring drag racing), most technologically advanced and arguably most prestigious (and best paying) form of motorsport.

This doesnt necessarily make it the best in terms of entertainment....and NASCAR is actually the number one (in terms of fan base) sport in the USA.

I've been to NASCAR, Indy and F1 races...and the racing I most enjoyed was the local guys in their old Camaros and Firebirds tearing around an old dirt track when I was a teenager back in Canada.

Unfortunately, formula 1 is now all about money. Those teams who have the most get the best engines and win the most races, also with ticket prices at £100 it makes it mostly unavailable live for the masses and we have to make do with boring tv coverage.

Poor mans racing.
Busting out the glass & Welding the doors shut on an Old  1988 delta 88 and sliding around the track for $20. a night.   Years ago I FLipped my Delta 88 at Manzanita Race track in Phoenix.  I got Suspended for Two weeks becuse when I FLipped my Car,  a Case of beer FLew out the windows and scattared beer bottles all over the race track. I'd smoke & drink while racing all the time. Only got caught once.

Awh !  the good Ol' days,  I miss'um.
