  • Do you SMOKE?

I don't think we've had a topic about cigarette smoking. Here's your chance to put your side of this sometimes polarizing debate.

I quit about 10 years ago. I'm mentally tolerant toward smokers, but physically it makes me sick when I am in a smoky place.

I hate it when I see girls and pretty ladyboys smoke. It's not feminine. For some reason I really hate to see anyone smoking outdoors. Not sure why that is, though.

But I do love the smell of a freshly lit ciggy when I am having a beer! But not the exhaled smoke.

    So I think I am anti-smoking, NOT anti-smoker!

I'd be very interested in your stories, especially how you quit (if you did.)

I do smoke, and enjoy it a lot.

However I only smoke where i can, and respect the non-smokers point of view.

i do smoke, wish i didn't, find it hard to give up.
i quit once using zythromax and it worked really well- i detested the smell like i imagine most somkers do, but i went to goa, sat on a nice beach and thought fuck it- i'll smoke here for fun and quit after the trip. obviously thats a stupid idea as 5 years later i still smoke (and enjoy it).
if i ever get round to quitting booze i know it will be easier but i just find it imposible not to light up after a beer, and smoking for free (virtually - cambodian cigs: $2.60 for 200) makes it even harder.

I have never been a smoker but it doesn't worry me at the pub or club, it's not until you get home you realise you stink. Not for much longer though as of July next year there will be a total smoking in clubs and pubs in NSW.
Like Stogie said it's outside that I notice it more. The worst is outside shopping centres where you have to run the gauntlet of smokers and the pall of smoke.
I don't get it, is this a magic show?

I smoke but wish I didnt, but I have for 30 years and have tried bit cant kick the habit

My friend used used to smoke 60 cigs a day but gave up over 3 years ago, he is the most anti- smoking bastard I have ever met now.

I thought if he could give up so could I but no luck yet because I quite enjoy a ciggie with a drink

It will be interesting when the smoking ban comes in force next year in English pubs as I am a manager of one and I hope it helps me quit, we will see

I only smoke when I am on fire

Seriously though I can't stand smokey nightclubs and bars. Nothign worse than coming home smelling like and ashtray.

I however don't think bars and clubs should necessarily be non smoking as it is my choice to go in knowing about the dangers of passive smoking etc.

The places I think should be smoke free is anywhere there are children such as in cars and even homes. I know this is almost impossible to police but one of my greatest annoyances is when I see young kids in the back of the car with all the windows up and mum and day puffing away like chimneys oblivious to the harm they are doing to their children.

Yeah... Those cunts are the worst!

To give up smoking you have to trick yourself that you aren't actually quitting!

If you pressure yourself with the "I gotta quit" attitude, or "Everyone thinks I don't smoke!" approach then you are doomed...

You can fool yourself (in a nice way) but you'll never fool anyone else.

Quitting is easy if you have done it, but it's a real kick in the bollocks for most people.

I actually do have a method for quitting if anyone is interested. Actually it's not about quitting smoking (which is damn near impossible)... it's more about postponing your next ciggy till you just don't want it or can't remember wanting it.

i used to smoke in bars but haven't smoked in about 3 years without really trying very hard to stop.

i don't mind being around farangs who smoke but would prefer ladyboys that don't. call me sexist!

Yes, I smoke. Got a fuck'n problem with that ?

I have never smoked in my house or my Newer cars. I do have a Celica that I've owned for about 9yr's that I do smoke in but I have never used the ash tray. I use a portable Butt Can.
I don't want anyone walking into my house or riding in my cars and having to smell smoke. I do respect non smokers to a very small degree. When ever I see children walking toward me when I am smoking I will cup my cig and walk away.

I will hide it from children but you all can fuck off......
Seriously though. Even in the Nightclubs that allow smokers, I will go outside to have a smoke. Going outside to smoke is part of a routine I've developed over the years. I wish everyone would do it.
I'm a smoker and I hate smokey enclosed rooms.

I have never smoked and I've always found it just gross and disgusting since my earliest memories. I'm flabbergasted that anyone ever thinks it is cool as a kid and can't wait to do it to show their friends how cool it is.

To me that's like being eager to hit your face with a hammer in front of your friends to show them how cool you are. Being back in school, I am gobsmacked that any of these 18 year old kids smoke. Who starts smoking these days? This is a little different fromt he sorry old bastards who grew up with the TV commercials where dancing girls in giant cigaratte costumes told you it was good exercise for your lungs.

The aspect of smoking that bothers me is how smokers don't see what it is like, or how different they treat it than any other pastime. If I drank a beer and then sprayed it right in your face while we were talking in a bar, you would rightly punch me in the face. Smokers do this every day and don't think anything about it. You wouldn't shake my hand after you see my wiping my ass with it, but smokers expect to kiss people right after they smoke. And flicking their litter everywhere like they think its just going to disappear makes me furious.

All that having been said, I hate government telling people what to do. I believe in private property, and if some restaurant and bar owners want smoking, and some don't, both will find a customer base. I do wish smokers would quit for their own as well as others benefit, but in the real world, if they just had some respect for the space around them and treated it like the area contaminating mess that it is, I would have nothing to complain about.

My personal recent peeve is the guy in my math class who comes in reeking of smoke and then sits right in front of me. What do you say? Hey dude, you stink.

So Grunyen, how do you kiss the ladies when you go to Nana?
