At least it was a reasonably entertaining series for a change.

Australia still ranked number 1 though

I thought I'd dig up an old thread in anticipation of the battle ahead.

I just read an article on cricinfo which shows how stupid political correctness has become.

Pommy bashing given the all clear....

A spokesman for CA, Peter Young, said his organisation fully supported the ICC recommendations to crackdown on racism in the game, an issue which was brought to the forefront last December when several South Africa players, on tour in Australia, alleged they were racially abused by spectators. However the term "pom," or "pommy" will still be acceptable following advice from Australia's Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission who have given the idiom the all clear.

Young said the commission's advice, based on a 1997 discrimination ruling, was that "pom was not hurtful when used in isolation, although using the word with others could be deemed racist, offensive or humiliating". He refused to speculate on whether Australian fans who combined the term "pom" with offensive words to taunt English fans during the upcoming Ashes series could face eviction and bans from cricket grounds.
I'm sure the fans will only use pom with endearing terms.
I don't get it, is this a magic show?

England in Australia are 25/1 to retain the ashes.
Australia are 12/1 on. meaning you bet $12 to win one doller.
                  Australia are morals.

HE also called the sri lankan chucker , which lead to a rule change so he can continue to play

It's bullshit now the Paki's want to charge Hair with bringing the game into disrepute and I'm sure the ICC would like to wipe their hands of him, they've already stood him down from the champions trophy. Now any umpire will be too shit scared of making a tampering charge because it might affect his career.

Australia beat England by 6 wickets.

Champions trophy - does anybody care? Especially since the wickets have been in such great condition in India.

But it's always nice to bet the old enemy

It was good that the young guys stood up last night (Watson/Johnson), McGrath looked old and slow which is a worry.

This article about the Pakistan side made me laugh
Dr Nasim Ashraf, the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has called on players to stop displaying their religious beliefs in public. Recently the Pakistan team has made it a point to pray outside the privacy of their own rooms as well as holding religious gatherings in team hotels.
"There is no doubt their religious faith is a motivating factor in the team," Ashraf told Reuters. "It binds them together. But there should be balance between religion and cricket."
And he said that he had discussed the matter with Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan's captain, and that while he had no concerns about personal beliefs, he told Inzamam that Islam does not allow the imposition of views on others.
"I have told him clearly that there should be no pressure on players who don't pray regularly or any compulsion on them to do it. He has assured me there is no pressure on anyone to do anything they don't want to do."
                          Yeah no pressure at all.
