    Jack Palance RIP

Jack Palance, a legend, died today. He was 87.

It's a shame that he'll be remembered, partly, for that trashy peice of shit "City Slickers" but he did do a lot of good stuff, too.

When Palance accepted his Oscar for best supporting actor he delighted viewers of the 1992 Academy Awards by dropping to the stage and performing one-armed push-ups to demonstrate his physical prowess.

"That's nothing, really," he said slyly. "As far as two-handed push-ups, you can do that all night, and it doesn't make a difference whether she's there or not."

"Most of the stuff I do is garbage," he once told a reporter, adding that most of the directors he worked with were incompetent.

I always thought this guy was awesome. Had one of the scariest faces I ever saw when I was a kid. Great great actor........r m

      What was the Series called he hosted on Saturday nights;
It was spooky. They always played Scarry Movies.

I think it was called the; Darkside.

The Oscar was probably back payment for all that he had done before...Especially "Shane" that has become a classic now...

Growing up he was one of my favorites...Always scary...Great voice too...

Yeah my favorate Jack Palance film was The Ivory Ape (1980) (TV) A.B.C.'s Movie of the Week.

Jack was superb in the roll when it came to wrestling with the big Ape.

there are very few scenes in film in which an actor; or
actress; takes complete control of a scene without
saying a word they way palance did when you first see him in 'shane'. sitting at a table, caressing a cup of coffee with black gloved hands. i have it on video and
can watch that scene over and over. having fought in 2
of them i am not a fan of war movies. one i can watch
is 'attack' with palance and eddie albert. a good character study of two dissimilar soldiers. a small detail
of that film. both palance and albert were decorated
            veterens of ww11.

My understanding is that Palance started as a prize fighter, and was actually pretty successful, with a string of KOs. He also put Marlon Brando in the hospital once when they were sparring.

He got hit in his larynx once, giving him that raspy voice (I'll always remember him as Curly in City Slickers).

I've always got to take my hat off to guys who can keep in the saddle that long.

My favorite line of his was in Tim Burton's Batman when he utters the horribly insincere "You... are my number one... guy...." Brrrr!

Like Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken he could be menacing with just a look. He was well qualified to play in war movies too, as he was badly burned during WWII when a bomber he was piloting crashed The resulting plastic surgery helped give his face its aged, leathery look.
