  • Digital Videos Camera

Hey guys im currently in search of a mid range digital video camera that can shoot footage and also take fairly good quality still shots mainly for my trip to thailand in febuary but will come in handy for other things as well.

Was hoping someone could point me in the direction of some good cameras (good brands) maybe something you have tried out or own yourself. Im not sure whether to go down the digital camera path which takes high quality photos yet usually only allows for low quality video footage or the digital camcorder that takes high quality footage yet low quality still pictures so im looking at something that does a resonable job of both.

My price range would probably be $1000 tops but would like to go something cheaper then that. All help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

Canon Elura 70 or the Elura 75 that has a powered shoe.  Only the Elura 75 can cause your Video Light to act as a FLash while your taking stills or stills while recording Video.

While recording you can take Stills on the Fly or capture Stills on Playback.
They both have a built in Analog to Digital converter if you want to take some of your Old VHS cassettes and convert them to DVD's.  Just patch your Elura into your VHS Recorder and patch the other end into your Computers DVD Burner and the camera will do the work for you.  It comes with Pinnacle Software for Editing your Movies.  THe canon elura also has a memory card slot  ( SD )  I am very impressed with the built in Microphone also.   Couldn't believe the range was so good.

Just remember to only use Optical Zoom,  Digital Zoom really sucks on Most cameras.

You can use this Cam corder as a Plain DIgital camera, hence the Memory card slot.

I'm also in the market for a video camera and your price range matches mine...

Here are the models I have come up with so far...

      Panasonic VDR D300
      Sony HDR HC1
      JVC GR-X5
      Panasonic PV GS250
      Sony DCR DVD403

I have scouted many websites and review sites and all of them seem to think that these 5 cameras offered the best value for money. Now that I have whittled the list down to 5 I can't decide which one to actually buy!

      Cheers...
