Has the code for calling Bangkok changed

Last night after several failed attemts to call Bangkok I recieved a reply of add 08 before the number.
Tried that but same result call could not be completed.
Any one have knowledge of a change in phone codes are any change in calling Bangkok. Thanks guys.

Mobile numbers had the extra '8' added about 3 or 4 months ago

Good luck...my number in Thai started with 0999........
        Now inside as I understand, it's 08999.....
and calling my number from outside you drop both the 0 and 8 and it's 011 66 999.......

        I think

if you are calling a mobile number you have to add an extra 8

          In Thailand: 09-555-1212 ===> 089-555-1212
Outside Thailand +669-555-1212 ===> +6689-555-1212 (+ is your countries code for making international call )

If you are calling a Land Line, which is "2" then an 8 is NOT needed.
          so, 02-555-1212 is unchanged !!!

So simple even a thai could do it !

Calling from outside into Thai following your instructions didn't work....at least for me...

I tried all the combinations to send myself an sms to my Thai number and the only one that worked is a number without the 0 and the 8....for me at any rate...what finally worked was + (011) 66999 etc....maybe my number is screwy or something...I know I am...

Kahuna, you missed the middle part of Snick's directions:

Outside Thailand +669-555-1212 ===> +6689-555-1212 (+ is your countries code for making international call )

No need to put the zero "0" in when making the call from outside Thailand, but be sure to put the new "8" in!

No I didn't miss his directions...I tried it and it would not work when I inserted the 8...only worked without the 0 and the 8...And as I recall, when I was in BKK in September and they were making the change, I believe the newspaper article I read said that you didn't need to add the 8 when calling from outside...I may be wrong...but this is the only way my number will work now...

Its a big mess, adding '8' worked for me with MOST numbers, but not all.

It might be carrier specific, or some other random factor.

I'm also not sure if Skype (which I was using to call Thailand) was doing something funky as well.

What I posted is what SHOULD WORK as of Dec 1st, but This Is Thailand ™.

Thanks guys, talked to a Thai friend here in the states she said to add the 8 before the 7 in my friends number worked like a charm. Her regular number had worked fine without the 8 last weekend, so go figure.
