strange that there are so many brits here that doesnt mention these classic bands from the 80s: discharge, exploited, gbh, crass, anti-nowhere league, conflict, ...

and yanks that forgot: dead kennendys, black flag, minor threat, social distortion, teen idles, government issue, flipper, dag nasty, ......

Kind of amazing what happens to these guys when they grew up.

David Jo morphed into Buster Poindexter.......

At any rate Personality Crisis rocks!

My favorite punk rock group were, are and always will be The Ramones! I already liked them, when I was a kid, after seeing their movie "Rock'n Roll High School" on television. Very funny!
Later, I bought all their records, knew all their songs and lyrics and saw them for the first time in concert in 1987, when I was just 16 years old. One year later, at only 17, they did a 3-date tour of Germany and I hitch hicked to all the three shows, which were spread out all over Germany (Giessen, Berlin and Düsseldorf).
This tour was in a great package of 4 very good bands:
              1. The Seers (from Bristol)
              2. The Godfathers (remember: "Birth, School, Work, Death"?)
              3. The Ramones
              4. The Stranglers
I still went to see them in the following years and in total I saw them 10 times and after Dee Dee Ramone split from the band, I saw him in concert twice.
After one show, I even managed to meet them in the hotel bar and we talked for about 3-4 hours. I mostly talked to Joey, who was very friendly and kind!
              Rest in peace, boys!

Iggy Pop and Lou Reed probably started the US version of Punk and they owe a debt of gratitude to David Bowie for teaching them how to be creative AND punky!

The Brits gave birth to the real age of punk with groups like The Feelgoods, Ramones, Sham 69, The Alarm, The Clash, Pistols, Clash, 999, The Alarm etc... Crap music really but that's what Punk was really.

Instead of the woeful expediency of Glam Rock (which I am ashamed to admit I enjoyed!) and the 'alternative' groups who really could play their instruments (Floyd, Genesis, ELP etc) now everyone could have a go even if you were crap.

                That's what punk was about.

Hey, RR... Did you like Norfolk Coast? One of there best ion years I'd say...

                          Also liked The Jam. XTC...

Don't forget The Saints . Their first single (I'm) Stranded predated the Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks and The Clash. Although it was only their first couple of releases that were punk and the original band split up after few years together.
I don't get it, is this a magic show?

                              Debbie Harry     ,

Like most of my generation I had her poster on my wall       It's still carefully stored away.

I understand she used to perform on stage in New York with no nickers on

However she was New Wave not Punk!

                              RR.
