Totally depends on the service - in Thailand, normally leave the coins and or 20b note after a meal, unless its a decent restaurant. In gogo's normally 5% or max of 100b depending upon size of the bill + a tip in the hand of the server if she has been good. The only one these days I do this to is Pamela in Obsession. Still rated by me as the best service girl in Nana and she always gets a 100b tip from me in her hand, which she is allowed to keep herself, so long as it does not go in the tray.

    Cheers

      Mardhi,

are you saying that if you don't actually put the money in there hand they don't get it? Who gets it then?

You pays your money & takes your chance. This isn't a rehearsal do it now, it's no good looking back when it's a lover & wishing.... ITS TOO LATE.

Good point... If you leave the money in the tray then it's shared... if you hand the tip directly to the waiter he.she keeps the lot.

27-28 years of visiting the LOS & I never clicked the tips didn't go to the waitress looking after you! Never too old to learn something. I shall certainly watch that next time I'm in town. But at least tips are shared, rather than the bar pocketing them.

I believe tips are shared out among all the service staff, barstaff, cashiers and probably the mamasans in Nana bars - I still leave a general tip in the tray, but the bulk goes to the server concerned in her hand.

Guess works differently - the tips are shared by the hostesses as they dont have service staff, Gong and Pong (bartender and cashier) do NOT share in the tips for some reason. Not exactly sure why Jay did it that way, but I do know they have a higher salary for presumably that reason. I think she did it that way to drive a service mentality into the girls which seems to have worked.

            Cheers

When you say shared by the staff mardhi...How does that work ?
Employed staff or do the freelancers also get a crack of the whip ? And if a freelancer turned up and was barfined within an hour would she still be involved in the divy up at the end of the evening ?

I have often thought about this conundrum

On a trip to Pak Chong their was 7 or 8 of us at the Riverside Rest. it being my last couple of days in Thailand I bought dinner for everyone and left a 600 baht tip. My friends girl friend says that is to much, I says to her those guys worked hard all night and we all know they make shit. She says they will love you long time.
Well we go out the waiters go to clear the table, well the shit hits the fan they are all screaming and waiing. She says what did I tell you, I think great made some people happy.

I tend not to tip as in most cases it's never quite deserved, anywhere. In any case, I tend to round up the bill as normally pay by CC.
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!
