a bit of a ruckus on the major escort review site in the states. not specifically about ladyboys, but about a guy getting beat up by the barkers as he wandered about nana plaza. here's the link:

have any of you *ever* been roughed up/manhandled/physically threatened right there inside nana plaza? i know we should always keep our heads up and eyes sober, especially when prowling for freelancers late nights, but right there in NEP?

Sounds like BS to me...as many times as I've walked through NEP I have never once even been touched by one of the young touts...sure they all try and get you into their bars but not with force...steel-toed shoes...what a joke...an MBK staple...more like steel-toed flip-flops...I'll wager if he did get his ass beat, there is much more to the story than he is telling...

This is a warning abouct Nana Plaza in Bangkok.  Last month I decided to walk through Nana Plaza to check it out. I had walked through about 8 months earlier with no problems.  This time, the young men hired to guide single men into some of the establishments, have gotten more physical.  I walked in and moved to the left to circle in a clockwise manner as I usually do. I walked through a group of guys who were grabbing me and trying to get me into their bar. My feeling is that if they need guys to guide you into a bar, the women are not worth seeing. If they were hot, the women would be out there. Anyway, I walked through the first group of guys, and the second group was even more physical, they pointed to the right and actually reached around my waist with their left hands, actually pulling me into the bar. I resisted one guy who was about 5'11" and pushed away from him. As I broke free, I was sucker punched on the left side of my head near the temple, and kicked on my left hip. I turned around and was smashed in the face. I was dazed, so I looked at this guy bouncing around at the entrance of the bar, I dove at his feet, and that is the last thing I remember, until I work up in a Bangkok hospital a day later. Apparently, all of his buddies took turns kicking me after I successfully took him to the ground. I was in the hospital for about three days with a major concussion, and many hemotomas throughout my body.  The hit to my left hip took about three and a half weeks to go away. The doctors surmised that it had to have been done by steel toe shoes. Here is my advice. If you see guys ahead of you at Nana Plaza trying to guide you into a bar, turn around and walk the other way.  A single guy doesn't have a chance.  As far as I know from my research on the subject, only individual guys have been attacked.  When I contacted my hotel, the front desk manager told me that I was the 4th guy attacked from the hotel in the last few weeks. Unfortunately, for me, I was the only one hospitalized.  It isn't happening only in Nana Plaza; I talked to a Thai, who looks like an Indian, on the plane and he told me he had the same problem on the street next to a lady bar. Only when he spoke Thai and begged them to let him pass did they let him go. Beware, Beware, Beware;

What a loser... Well - as usual there are two sides to every tale and as I've been doing the same walk now for several years with NO problems EVER I can confidently surmise that this guy did something to provoke this outburst and he doesn't have my sympathy one bit.

I'll bet good money that he got what he deserved. NOBODY gets physically manhandled going through Nana Plaza.

Moral of the story is keep smiling - its uncanny but a Thai will not 'go off' if you remain smiling and keep your cool no matter how serious it gets. I have never had any problems with the guys at Nana - just smile to acknowledge them and keep going. As soon as you lose that smile, they sense something is going to go down and any farang has zero chance if shit happens.

Having said that I have seen a number of fights breaking out in Nana - and it tends to be someone who has a superiority attitude that causes it. Key as I say is respect - its helped me out many many times including times when in business with what were a gang of thugs, I walked away scot free with a wai and smiles - I actually had a nasty feeling I was going to end up dead - never never make a Thai lose face, especially in front of other people.

I see two pretty bad Nana incidents at Xmas time which i posted somewhere. One guy came tumbling down the steps near Obsessions and was thrown into the food tables there and kicked to fuck.

The next night some guy was punched about outside Casanove bar by the goons.

May just a co incidence but anywhere you get drink flowing and imbeciles you are bound to get trouble...in London , BKK ,HK or anywhere..

you can imagine how some incidents start....
Some Greenhorn just off EVA BR67 and straight in the deep end in Nana 2 hours later.. still thinks hes in Newcastle City Centre..

So we all know this guy and all the posters who replied to him are total losers. This is completely obvious. It is inconceivable to imagine these slight, often gay touts, randomly starting a fight. There must have been severe confrontation first.

But let's imagine it's true for a second. Can you think of anywhere in the world with about 40 sex bars, people drunk most of the time, a relatively low-class type atmosphere and many times low-class (except us of course!) clientele, and there are so FEW fights?

If I imagine this bar in the US or Canada, I imagine several fights per night, consistently. If Korea, where I have lived, I imagine fights about every hour (due to severe drunkenness). Certainly if it was in North America, there would typically be 2 monstrously sized bouncers at each bar to kick the shit out of all trouble-makers, and just have fun sometimes, and they would revel in that nightly.
