(nhscotsman @ Aug. 23 2007,11:59) It's a long ass ride to LOS but once I walk off the plane, across the tarmac and up into the terminal I'm so glad to be here, but once I get my bag(s) and walk out to where all the people are waiting and get my first hug and kiss from my GF, I am truly home!

I thought all planes disembarked at Bangkok using the air bridge
Every time I have come, we stop out away from the terminal and then they bring us in by bus (usually a few to get onto) and we walk into the terminal. Maybe this is how United Airlines does it, they are all I have ever flown.

Interesting...I experience that with domestic flights but never on an international flight...
But I've never flown UA to LOS...

Use of the buses depends on a few things: 1 gate assignment - for a while the a number of jetways were damaged and could not extend out to the airplanes at the gate. They have been recently repaired.

          2) the taxiways are still having the cracks repaired - if the gate was located near a repair area - then a plane would not be able to go to the gate and would have to be parked remotely - so the passengers would have to be bussed in.

          3) Airlines generally have a section of the airport they are assigned to - so the majority of their flights should arrive and depart at the same gate. United may be assigned to an area where these repairs are going on. Eventually these repairs should be completed and you will be able to use a jetway and not be bussed in.

Actually it comes down to money, if a plane comes to the gate it costs more, using the bus costs less.

If a plane is going to park overnight they can save a lot of money by using the bus; and avoiding moving to the gate, unloading, and moving back to the tarmac for parking.

Having a few broken air-bridges probably makes things even worse.

I tried Qatar Airways last trip because I got an excellent price of £376 for my ticket and even though I found them "very good" the thing that "pissed" me off was getting off the plane in Doha and being shuttled by bus across the tarmac to the terminal

As I fly from Manchester I dont bother going "Direct" via London with Thai Airways anymore because it takes 45 minutes to get from one terminal to another by bus

Flying via Amsterdam was OK but KLM still use the old 747's and the entertainment is shite

I will stick to Etihad Airways in the future, new 777's great flight times, great service and superb entertainment systems
The stopover in Abu Dhabi is only 1 hour and you can "piss" further to your connecting gate on arrival , So time to have a ciggie, nip down to "duty free" and buy my carton's of cigs of which cost me £9 ( 600 baht) and the money I saved on them as from purchasing them in the UK has actually PAID for my flight

Exactly my plan and whenever possible go direct.
Qantas do not fly direct Melbourne BKK, so joined Thai's frequent flyer program a while back now only fly Thai. The LOS experience starts the moment you get on the plane.

                        Hi patrick,
yeah in the past when ive flown from Melbourne have gone with tThai, this time jetstar were offering a flight for $500 dolars less, so have gone with them, but have been warned its pretty basic, but thinking of all the Lb's i can spend the$$ on will make it all worth while!!

I can read several magazines, and one book per cross-Atlantic flight. Sometimes two books.

I also bring 2 batteries for the laptop and sometime pluck away at learning some new tool, but I find I can only do that at the start of the flight, as when I'm tried, I can't do something that needs deep concentration.
